West Chester University of Pennsylvania invites applications and nominations for the position of Academic Advisor in the Pre-Major Academic Advising Center in the Department of Educational Development in the division of Undergraduate Student Support Services This tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level is a nine-month position with the possibility of summer employment. Scholarship, professional growth, and service are required for tenure and promotion. This position is expected to begin in Fall 2009.
Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities consist of assisting advisees with academic decision-making and career exploration. The selected candidate will be expected to pursue a scholarly agenda, engage in grant writing, and publish research results. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to participate actively in university governance and on committees that could include: retention initiatives, university-wide advising, new student orientation programs. Salary and benefits are competitive.
Minimum Qualifications: Doctoral degree required (or ABD with expected completion one year after start in position) in an education-related field; at least five years’ experience in higher education. Other Qualifications: experience in developmental advising of undergraduate students, experience working in a comprehensive first-year program experience (including working with transfer students), ability to work in a dynamic team-oriented environment and possess strong interpersonal skills, strong communication, and organizational skills. Candidates must also demonstrate the ability to work effectively with diverse groups including students, faculty, administration, and staff. Teaching experience is preferred. All finalists must successfully complete an on-campus interview. Complete official undergraduate and graduate transcripts are required prior to interview.
