Hello Everyone:
My name is Neil Lulla, and I coordinate the SI program at Clarkson College. We are looking at options of how we can recognize SI Leaders in our program who are graduating. Specifically, we have been considering awarding SI Leaders an honor cord to wear at their graduation. I wanted to check if any other institutions have awarded honor cords to recognize service as an SI Leader? If not, are there any other ways that anyone has recognized their graduating SI Leaders? Thank you very much for your input!
Sincerely,
Neil

Hi Neil,
Since we didn’t have a traditional graduation or an in-person party to speak of, we created a newsletter honoring our graduates from last spring, and we plan to do another for our December graduates. We sent it out to the entire campus listserv and it’s also posted on the Publications page of our SI website. You can find our SI April 2020 newsletter here [PDF download].

Hello Suzanne:
Thank you for your email! These are great ideas. I appreciate your input.
One thing we have done in the past is given gift cards and goody bags to our leaders.
Thanks,
Neil

Neil,
We do have a special honor cord for our CSI Leaders when they graduate. Also, in some years they have been recognized in the graduation program and/or at the awards ceremony.
We also forward to them scholarship and fellowship applications and offer to write letters of recommendation for them, in which we point out how they clearly stand out from most other students (including those who have been individual tutors), in that as SI leaders they have far more responsibility, consciousness, trust, approachability, and organization skills then most of their peers (which is why we chose them for this position, in the first place). These are skills that graduate and professional programs seek, as well as employers and I’ve had graduates mention specifically how they’ve been asked about their roles as SI leaders during job or residency interviews.
Best regards,
Suzanne

Hello all,
How are all these items paid for? I would love to at least offer a Starbucks drink but if I do I have to pay for it or gifts out of my own pocket. We do provide them with a work shirt and at one time I had PadFolio’s they could use because they were for their training materials but budgets the way they are now that’s out of the question. Ideas?
