Position Summary:
This position will direct all aspect of academic support and programming associated with Supplemental Instruction (SI) at both the Atlanta and Perimeter College Campuses. SI is a signature program at
GSU and provides significant retention initiatives related to student success. Academic support provided by SI is an integral part of GSU being a national model for undergraduate education. Students who attend SI regularly typically earn a half to full letter
grade higher than students who don't. It has proven to be particularly effective in enhancing the success of the 1st generation and low-income students we serve. This individual is responsible for working with faculty, directing all training and supervision
of SI leaders, and assessing all aspects of SI for all GSU. This person in this position will be charged with expanding and developing supplemental instruction course offerings to lower DFW rates across all section of courses in the core curriculum. The SI
Asst. Director ensures that critical actions of the SI program take place in a timely and efficient manner to support the academic success of the undergraduate students at Georgia State.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Recruit and train 150-250 SI leaders every semester for Atlanta and Perimeter College. Train staff to support and prepare SI leaders.
- Oversee planning, development, and implementation of training programs university wide for SI.
- Develop, maintain, and update policies and procedures of the SI program and for all student leaders working in the program.
- Evaluate and provide feedback on the effectiveness of every SI leader each semester and empower direct report staff to do the same.
- Work with faculty on all campuses Atlanta and PC to ensure SI program operates efficiently and effectively. Train staff to support and work with faculty
as well.
- Contact faculty about offering SI sessions, serve as primary liaison to faculty from the SI office and program.
- Encourage and facilitate faculty engagement with SI, responsible for communication with faculty about the development, implementation, and assessment
of SI.
- Manage any issues that arise between faculty and SI leaders.
- Supervise staff. Coordinate human resources activities, including creating/modifying position descriptions, performance appraisals, hiring, staff training,
discipline, conflict resolution, and termination of employees.
- Have knowledge of campus human resources policies, procedures, and employment development opportunities. Maintain materials for use in policy and procedure
manuals and training documents.
- Program development and marketing of SI on all campuses.
- Position is required for reviewing academic records to determine which courses and sections should be targeted for supplemental instructions.
- Must be an excellent representative of the program and be adept at marketing and presenting the program to increase awareness among students, faculty,
and staff.
- Responsible for all aspects of administration of university-wide Supplemental Instruction offices.
- Monitor and administer SI budget.
- Supervisor staff including SI Coordinators, Administrative Coordinator, graduate student staff, and undergraduate student staff
- Work effectively with campus partners and other office to ensure effective administration of all aspects of the SI program. Examples include knowledge
of University HR policies and procedures for student hiring, working with unit Business Manger to ensure that students hiring is accurate and that students are paid in a timely manner.
- Be knowledgeable of university scheduling procedures on all campuses and work with the Office of Scheduling to ensure effective and efficient placement
of all SI sessions.
- Work with Associate Director and Senior Director of Student Success to support initiatives designed to facilitate the retention, progression, and graduation
of all Georgia State University Students.
- Assist with the development of online academic support and other tutoring initiatives.

Qualifications
:
Bachelor's degree and two years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience. Experience with student support is a must.
