The Center for Student Success is responsible for student support services and faculty development programs on three campuses (St. Thomas/STT, ST. Croix/STX, and St. John/STJ) including leading first-year programs, Freshman Development Seminar, Honors Program, Summer Bridge, University Bound, Campus-wide retention planning, Learning Center Operations in four Centers - the Learning Center on STT, and the Math and Science Enrichment Center, Writing Center, and Learning Center on STX.
Position Title: Assistant Director of the Learning Center and Summer Bridge
The Assistant Director of Learning Center and Summer Bridge/Student Success Specialist will implement the University and Center for Student Success policies on advisement and retention; work with students enrolled in, and instructors of, pre-college courses to ensure that students needing tutorial help receive it; address students advisement and tutorial needs; collaborate with faculty advisors to promote effective advisement of students; assist with the Early Alert Program and any other advising duties assigned by the Executive Director. The Assistant Director will also collaborate with local high schools to recruit students into the Summer Bridge program; recruit students into the non-traditional Bridge program; organize and coordinate the Summer and non-traditional Bridge programs; supervise the St. Thomas English, Writing, Science, Math, and other tutors, Peer Mentors, PLTL and PASS leaders, and develop and deliver their training; will work with CSS staff to deliver workshops to both students and faculty on issues affecting student success and advisement. Assist with grant writing opportunities. Budget oversight and management for Summer Bridge and CSS operations. Will collaborate with the St. Croix Summer Bridge leader.
Must have significant leadership experience in Learning Center operations and student support programs with certifications in tutoring and/or supplemental instruction. Summer Bridge program operation or similar is a must. We use Banner. Advising experience a plus. This is not an entry level position. Position Title: Student Success Specialist/Professional Advisor
The successful candidate will assist with advisement, counseling and mentoring of at-risk students including undecided majors, pre-college participants, and students whose academic standing needs repair. The candidate will provide support to students for orientation, registration, and testing; respond to students’ concerns/problems and academic counseling; complete and submit all compliance reports as directed by Executive Director; work with learning center assistants and perform other duties as assigned.
