to SHPF - The Scottish Hang-gliding & Paragliding Federation
Dear all.

The SHPF AGM has been summarily arranged for tomorrow evening at the Aberdeen boatclub at 8pm in Aberdeen.

The SHPF was established to further the sports of paragliding and hang gliding in Scotland. One of the main aspects of this in recent times has been organisation of a national repacking event. We didn’t manage this year due to a lack of inspiration for alternate venues for a similar caliber of event. Individual clubs have taken on the task of arranging their own repacks for the time being.

This doesn’t mean the SHPF is no more.... The Federation receives regular funding from SportScotland and is in a strong position to assist clubs. It has been active in funding and subsidising training events like first aid courses, repack events and formal reserve repack qualifications and will continue to do so. If you have held an appropriate event please contact Adrian the SHPF treasurer in respect to reimbursement. Apart from that the SHPF coordinates the National series competitions which are hosted by individual clubs throughout the year, historically resulting in much fun, weather permitting. Also prizes are offered in various categories for flights achieved through the year.

The Federation receives regular funding from SportScotland and is in a strong position to assist clubs. Discussion is invited with regards to any ideas any of the membership have regarding how the SHPF should function. Ideas on other avenues the membership feel the SHPF could be useful are also welcome.

I understand the short notice of the AGM and it’s remote setting for the majority of members isn’t ideal, but at the moment it seems the easiest way to achieve the quorum required for the AGM to take place. With a few of the committee members recently moved abroad we have been spread thin, and most of the executive committee now are in the Aberdeen area. In due course it would be desirable to have a more diverse representation from the other clubs across Scotland.

There will be a few vacancies on the committee which we could do with volunteers for. Further information in due course, but if you are interested in helping out in any capacity please get in touch.

All the best. Nearly there ;) Will update on outcomes of AGM.

Khaled.

SHPF AGM update
Mar 17Khaled
Dear All....

An update on the SHPF AGM:

SHPF finances are in good shape. At year end we had £10,187.71 cash in the bank and Adrian is in the process of submitting the 2018/19 SportScotland Investment Application.

Income and expenditure were down in 2017 for the following reasons:

Ratho Repack 2017 income/expenditure down due to reduced numbers attending due to no zip wire EPS deployments.

One off income/expenditure of £265.00 / £871.55 in 2016.

The results from the curtailed 2017 Scottish Nationals.
1st Dudley Kitching
2nd Peter McCulloch
3rd Ben Johnson

Th results for the Xc league 2017

1st: Tim Bridle
2nd: Bob Matthews
3rd: Stephen Peglar
Longest Distance: Tim Bridle (160.2km (173.1km with turnpoints))
Best newcomer: Warwick Lister-Kaye
Top Club: LLSC with 1755 points

There's a few hundred pounds worth of prize money above which will be heading the winners way. Normally cheques and trophies would be distributed at the AGM but this year we can post out cheques or Adrian may be able to arrange a bank transfer if you ask nicely and send him your details.

Election of executive committee:

You may notice a few unfilled committe positions below. We are hoping that these are filled by members of clubs currently un/under- represented on the committee. So Wingbeat, Ochills, SMPC, Arran, Cloudbusters please consider if you can spare a few minutes a year to help coordinate affairs! Get in touch with any of the committe if you would like to get involved or we will head hunt if there are no voluteers.

Chairman: Warwick Lister-Kaye
Treasurer: Adrian Smith
Secretary: tbc
Safety & Sites Officer: Alistair Bowman ( i added 'sites' in there, hope you dont mind the extra workload Alistair :))
Nationals comp coordinator: Paolo Bellezze
XC league coordinator: Khaled Nassar
Paragliding chief coach/ liason :tbc
Hang gliding chief coach/ liason: tbc
Website: Stu Yarrow

It became evident that in order to hold a meaningful AGM to the maximum attendees we need to synchronise the AGM with a nationally organised repack or similar, this is our main objective moving forward. It would be nice to find a venue for a zipline or similar simulation so we will work on this, if not we'll lay on a regular repack with some interesting speakers with expertise, or free drinks, or bouncy castles, or something.

Big thanks to Scott Mather for his efforts organising the Nationals events for the past few seasons. And Seb Rider for helping as secretary, good luck in Switzerland. Thanks also to Matt Church for his contributions as chief coach and league coordinator. Welcome to Warwick who received multiple nominations for Chairman and is a great addition to the SHPF. Welcome back to Paolo another great asset to Scottish paragliding. And thanks to Adrian and Alistair for being steady helpful contributors.
