Saludos SHPE Sacramento Family and Friends! We hope you had a great Thanksgiving holiday in the company of your family and friends. We have one more great event to close out the year, so we hope to see you later this week. SHPE Sacramento Holiday Dinner and Silent Auction ~ Thursday, December 2nd
Please join us this Thursday, December 2nd @ 6:30pm for a our chapter's second annual Holiday Dinner and Silent Auction at Ten22 in Old Sacramento. We will highlight our chapter's Fall 2010 milestones and recognize member contributions, including acknowledging our chapter's accomplishment as the SHPE National's 2010 Most Improved Professional Chapter. All of the proceeds from the event's Silent Auction will go toward our SHPE Sacramento Scholarship Fund--a great opportunity to stock up on holiday gifts and benefit a great cause!

*The chapter will be selling raffle tickets for an Apple iTouch 32GB (4th Gen) starting at the Holiday Dinner and continuing through the end of December. If you would like to purchase tickets, please contact any of our chapters officers. All proceeds will benefit the SHPE Sacramento Scholarship Fund. The drawing for the Apple iTouch will be held at our January 5th General Meeting.
SHPE Membership Drive & Outreach Opportunities
Have you paid your 2010-2011 SHPE professional membership dues?? The SHPE professional member fee is $45, with the majority of your contribution coming back to your SHPE Sacramento chapter. Visit www.oneshpe.shpe.org to renew or to sign up. Please pass the word to your colleagues and friends.
Outreach Opportunities: Are you interested in going back to the classroom and talking about your career? We have received multiple requests to visit the SHPE student chapters early next year and present at their meetings. General Meeting: We had a great turnout at our last SHPE Sacramento General Meeting on November 3rd. Many thanks to Mr. Jeff Dunn, Senior Recruiter for Intel Corporation, for his presentation on effective interviewing techniques and tips on navigating through the current job market. We look forward to seeing you all at our next meeting on Wednesday, January 5th.
Puente Conference @ UC Davis: Professionals served as panelists at the November 13th Puente Conference at UC Davis for 9th graders interested in various engineering fields. Professionals shared challenges they faced completing their degrees, current job responsibilities, and community involvement by their companies. Thank you to our volunteers!
MEP Freshman Career Fair @ CSUS: SHPE Professionals volunteered an afternoon to meet with CSU Sacramento MEP students for this annual career development event. This mock career fair prepares engineering freshman for the upcoming spring engineering career fairs. Professionals reviewed resumes and provided tips for successfully landing internships. Thanks again to our professionals for volunteering.

SHPE Scholarship
Earlier this year, we awarded our first two SHPE Sacramento Scholarships. The two deserving students entered school this Fall and have started putting the scholarship to great use as they pursue their engineering degrees. Below is an excerpt from Jose Orozco, one of our first SHPE Sacramento Scholarship recipients. Jose is a freshman at UC Davis pursuing a Bachelors degree in Computer Engineering.
"I was just sending you an e-mail to give you an update on my life at Davis. It can be easily summed up as GREAT!! Excuse my enthusiasm, but the people are friendly, the classes present a challenge that I've been looking for, and lastly the feeling of being at home is just awesome. I also wanted to once again, thank you for the scholarship and making all of this possible, please send my greeting's and thanks to the rest of the group."
