News & Announcements: August 2010
Welcome SHPE Sacramento Family and Friends! The new chapter board is pleased to welcome you to our 'familia' and is very excited to kickoff another successful year. Over the course of this new term, we hope that you will become accustomed to hearing the word 'familia' at SHPE Sacramento events, meetings and activities, as well as, in media correspondence. With our personal and professional lives being more interlocked than ever, we would like to provide an atmosphere that's both sensitive to and inclusive of the needs of our diverse personal and professional backgrounds. That means bring your familia - e.g., significant other, child(ren), friends, etc. to our meetings/activities. We truly believe that this familia-style approach will strengthen bonds across chapter members, and allow us to share the positive impacts of our efforts to promote engineering and science in the Latino community with those closest to us: our family.

Past Events
On June 26th, 2010, the SHPE Sacramento Professional Chapter held a successful End of the Year Brunch to celebrate the chapter's accomplishments for the 2009-10 term, with 23 members, family and friends in attendance. The chapter awarded two inaugural $500 scholarships to much deserving students. The recipients were Jose Orozco, a graduating senior from Gridley High School, who will begin his studies in Computer Engineering at UC Davis this Fall; and Alejandra Aguilar, a continuing Biomedical Engineering major at The University of the Pacific. Congratulations to these two scholars, and many, many thanks to everyone who contributed to our first annual SHPE Sacramento Scholarship fund! This was only the beginning as we hope to make a greater impact in Sacramento area students' lives by awarding more scholarships in the 2010-2011 year!
You can visit the SHPE Sacramento webpage at www.sacramento-shpe.org anytime to make a contribution to the SHPE Sacramento Scholarship Fund. Thank you for your support!
