SHPE Sacramento Chapter Meeting ~ Presentation by Jeff Dunn, Sr. Recruiter (Intel Corporation)
Please join us Wednesday, November 3rd @ 6:30pm for a dynamic and interactive meeting by Jeff Dunn, Sr. Recruiter (Intel Corporation). Mr. Dunn will share "insider" tips for successfully navigating the current job market, effective interviewing skills and upcoming job opportunities (Intel will be hiring at leat 1,000 new employees from various majors through 2011). Also, come get the scoop on upcoming chapter events and opportunties and expand your professional network. Food and refreshments will be sponsored by Intel Corporation. Region 1 Bomba Cup Soccer Tournament
The annual Region 1 Bomba Cup is coming! The soccer tournament is a region-wide tradition, where SHPE chapters (students and professionals alike) face off in friendly competition on the soccer field. San Jose State will be hosting Bomba Cup on Saturday, November 16th at Lake Cunninghan in San Jose. Cost will be $10 per player. The SHPE Sacramento Professional Chapter Holiday Dinner & Silent Auction is scheduled for Thursday, December 2, 2010 at Ten22 Restaurant in Old Sacramento. Invite Postcards have been sent through USPS. Items for our Silent Auction are now being accepted (items must be in new or unused condition). SHPE Membership Drive & Special Election Results
Have you paid your 2010-2010 SHPE professional membership?? The SHPE professional member fee is $45, with the majority of your contribution coming back to your SHPE Sacramento chapter. Visit www.oneshpe.shpe.org to renew or to sign up. Pass the word to your colleagues and friends.
Congratulations to Mickela Gonzales and Javier Soria on their new SHPE Sacramento 2010-2011 board positions. Mickela will serve as the Outreach Coordinator - University Liason, organizing and marketing many opportunities for SHPE professionals to reach out to the SHPE students at our local colleges and universities. Javier will serve as the Outreach Coordinator for K-12 events and will advertise local community outreach opportunities. Thank you to both of them for stepping up!

Big Crush: Thanks to all who participated in the second annual chapter van-pool to the Big Crush Harvest Festival in Amador County.
Bomba Blast: Thank you so much to the SHPE Professionals who offered up their Saturday morning and early afternoon to serve as great mentors to our local SHPE students. We had 17 SHPE students from CSU Sacramento and UC Davis attend the 4th annual Bomba Blast. We had an amazing, interactive resume workshop presentation by Nick Bruque, which was followed by one-on-one resume reviews and mock interviews. Many students even took the opportunity to have their mock interviews recorded so that they could review and fine-tune their interviewing techniques before the SHPE Conference. Thanks to all who volunteered and helped make this event a huge success!
*On a side note: Congratulations to the SHPE CSUS student chapter academic olympiad team for placing 1st in the NASA sponsored National Academic Olymipiad at the SHPE Conference this past weekend!!
