It’s a Google Group, so you’ll have to poke around their docs to see if that functionality is possible.

I know Shopify doesn't have the feature on the forums. Which make the
forums basically a one way conversation. Just about any commenting/
forum platform has some sort of "subscribe to" option.

Might not be what you are looking for, but a nice little hack.. add .xml to the end of the forum post's URL.. this will give you an XML feed that you can stick in your RSS reader.

ex: http://forums.shopify.com/categories/2/posts/66494.xml

I second the addition of "subscribe to this thread" style email
responses for the Shopify Forums at forums.shopify,com. We've had a
number of instances where someone responded to something we posted,
but we didn't know about the response. The XML hack is quite
suboptimal. A number of forum systems support the subscription
capability, so many something can be done?
