Dear shogi friends,
We are excited to release the third issue of Ginkammuri magazine, featuring captivating stories, vivid memories from Minsk’s gaming community, and historical explorations: https://gm.shogi.by/issues/3

Highlights in this issue:
• An interview with Andrei Kasperovich — an enthusiast and promoter of chess-related games, former FESA President, and one of the founding figures of the modern Belarusian shogi community — reflecting on its history and current state.
Dariko Todua: the story of the girl who became the face of Minsk shogi.
• The mystery of the first commercial localization of shogi outside Japan. (Continued.)
• The origin of the game of draughts. (Continued.)

Best regards,
Andrei Lysenka

Hi Fabien,

Andrei Kaspierovich was actually the President of FESA for a very short time—just about a year in 2007-2008. He was serving in that capacity, for instance, at the 2008 International Shogi Forum in Tendo. There's an interview with him that goes into why he took the role and why he stepped down.

Your surprise is telling. It highlights how we in the modern European shogi community often neglect our own history. We forget our past activists and heroes, and we don't do a good job of preserving documents or photos.

A perfect example: at the FESA meeting this summer, after the Belarusian representative (my brother) mentioned that this year is the 40th anniversary of the first European Championship, nobody could reliably say where it was held or who won. Preserving these important parts of our community's history is exactly one of the reasons this magazine exists.

Best regards,
Andrei

Hi Andrei !

I hope all is well with you.

Was Andrei Kasperovich indeed former FESA president ??? I don't remember this period although I've been involved in FESA matters for about 30 years.

Was it before Reijer Grimbergen ?

Kind regards

Fabien
