Dear shogi friends,
We are thrilled to announce the release of the inaugural issue of Ginkammuri magazine! The digital version is now available for download and free distribution.

We first envisioned a glossy club magazine back in 2020, planning to launch it in time for the ESC/WOSC 2020 in Minsk. Many initiatives of the Ginkammuri club—video interviews, thematic podcasts, historical game research—began during that time and were considered as potential materials for this hypothetical publication. We even started preparing a pilot issue for release in August 2021, but…
Despite having a strong foundation for an illustrated magazine—an extensive archive of exclusive photographs and a certain level of expertise in classic board games—the task proved too overwhelming for our small team, and we had to put the project on hold.

In 2024, we revived the idea and, with tremendous effort, often at the expense of other club activities, brought it to life in exactly the format and quality we had envisioned. Naturally, we had doubts about the demand for such a publication, but to our delight, the limited trial edition of the first issue sold out completely among club members. This gives us hope that our endeavor will resonate with readers.

The first issue can be flipped through online and downloaded for free here: https://gm.shogi.by/issues/1 Future editions will be available by subscription. Anyone who subscribes to the print version before the release of the February issue will receive the January edition as a gift.

If you share our vision of a publication for those who understand the significance of every move, support us! Subscribe, spread the word, or simply share your thoughts on social media—every step forward helps the project grow and evolve. Together, we can create something truly unique!🚀

Best regards,
Andrei Lysenka

Hi all.

This is a nice one, I have half-read it, and I like the article on the Wester investigation of shogi existence in Europe and Russian lands.

I am pretty sure that you will already have this one too,

https://archive.org/details/japanesechesssho00suzurich/page/n7/mode/2up

by Choyo Suzuki; "Japanese Chess, (shogi); The science and art of war, or struggle Philosophically treated. Chinese Chess (Chong-kie) and I-GO"

It's the oldest evidence of Shogi spreading I've found in the Americas, ergo the western from 1904.
I had a copy from; "WebArchive" Scanned from "the Library of the University of California (USA)"

Regards!
Efrén

Hello, Rubio.

Thank you for your feedback. I have the book Chōyō Suzuki on my list of shogi literature. It is neither the oldest evidence of shogi in America nor the evidence of shogi spreading. It is simply a rather peculiar nationalistic work by a Westernized Japanese author.

Best regards,
Andrei

Yup, I was pretty much sure you'd have it. (^ __ ^)

Whoever did a minimal web search, would have found it too. I found it ages ago ... over 10 or so years. And thn I didn't did a "deep" search either. >__<  hehe.
And sure, if you re-read well my email, what I've said is; the oldest book
I have found (myself). Not that it was "the older one". :-p

Regards.
Efrén.
