Dear All,
This message is addressed mainly to the oldest members of this list.
Sorry to annoy the others with this information.
I'm very sad to inform you that Yoshio Ohsaki has passed away two days ago.
Yoshio visited Europe in 1996, joining female professional player Yamato
Takahashi in a European Tour of the shogi clubs existing at that time.
He was then chief editor of the monthly magazine Shogi Sekai. Meeting
him for the first time during this visit, I have been impressed not only
by his kindness but also by his great patience in playing against the
very beginners we were.
Having pursued his career as novel writer, and also manga & movie
scenarist, many shogi fans attached his name to the biograhic novel
"Satoshi no Seishun" which is telling the story of Murayama 9-dan's too
short life. This book has been later adapted in a movie under the same
title.
(For the ones who don't know the name of Murayama, this player has been
used as inspiration to set the character of Harunobu Nikaidou in the
manga / anime "March comes in like a Lion")
The shogi community owes him a lot, in Japan and in Europe.
In that peculiar time.my thoughts are with his wife and son.
If you know "old" shogi players who would not follow this list, don't
hesitate to share this information to them.
