Hi,
Basically Shoreikai is kind of a league. Usually players play 2 games a day twice a month. Depending on whether they win or lose, they gain rank, until they get to the rank of 3 dan, at which point they enter so-called 3rd dan league, where only the two best players then become professional players every half a year.
There's no explicit studying happening in Shoreikai itself, the Shoreikai is just a league, where players serious about shogi play for the chance to become a professional shogi player. The studying is left to students themselves. They usually have some study groups, often they're allowed to participate in so called Kenkyuukai or research groups lead by some professional players, but the emphasis is always on the self study of shogi. Players at shoreikai experience this weird situation where if they study with their other comrades from Shoreikai, they're practically speaking, helping their competition to become stronger.
There's no formal curriculum or formal tutoring and the amount of help that the individual shogi players in Shoreikai receive from their 'teachers' - other professional players, is also varied to a great degree. For example, Amahiko Sato in his book "Risou wo genjitsu ni suru chikara" mentions that he received little actual help from his teacher. I hope this information helps.
Kind regards,
Lukas Vyletel
