I'm not the right person to reply your query in a right sense, but IDOLS (/ Devi / Devta's) are "IMMERSED" in holy ganges (here water, ...with change of time) and we human being pray to THEM for coming to our place (invite THEM with prayer) next year for clearing all obstacles and make our life smooth - pray to THEM for we becoming "Good Human Being".
