Jim,           I have an ancestor, Johann-Bernard Wommer, who lived in Eitzweiler and came over from Germany and landed in Philly on 30 Aug 1737. The captian of the ship was Hugh Percy.             I wrote a book that is 964 pages long and it is from 1737 to the present. I also went to Germany a few times to visit my relatives and they came here to visit us.             Need to know more my e mail is woo...@aol.com                                           Jim WoomerÂIn a message dated 4/1/2016 7:57:48 P.M. Salette,
Â
I believe my ancestor, Herman Hartman was on board The Samuel on that
trip. He was a Palatine German making way from Rotterdam - Cowes, then to
Philadelphia, PA in Aug.1737. Trying to find out as much about the trip,
voyage, etc as I can..
Â
Sincerely
Â
Jim

Hi,
Â
I'm just getting into overseas research on my father's family line. Herman
Hartman, came to Philadelphia in Aug.1737 aboard the Samuel. The records
that I have show the ship leaving Rotterdam, making port in Cowes, then
crossing the Atlantic to Philadelphia?
Â
I'm looking for ANY historical information regarding this voyage. I have
the ship manifest of passengers (among which was my ancestor) but little
else. Can you all help please? He was a Palatine German and I'm trying to
find out as much as I can about him and the voyage he took.
Â
Sincerely,
Â
Jim

Ahoy, Shipmates,
Â
I’ve been watching this 1737 thread with a distant sort of interest. My old Johan Henrik KNOPP guy and his family were on the 1731 crossing. Aside from a transcription of the passenger manifest there are no extant records that I can find about that 1731 crossing, which might have been Capt. Percy’s first time to visit Philadelphia. We do find that the return trip home, in August 1731, had among its passengers Charles Wesley, the Methodist hymn composer (among other famed talents).
Â
Carry on!

I ran across the info that Charles Wesley had visited America in 1731, returning on the "Samuel," in a book in our church library that I happened upon. Of course, I was never again able to find the book, which was on the hymnody, not a biography per se. Anybody else have info on this?
