Chief Navigator Howard Groff,

It's so good to hear from you!    No wonder the Ship Samuel is stuck in the Philly harbor.  You've been lurking belowdecks for too long!

Thank you for trying to find the obit of my classmate.  As you have probably seen, Kim Yoxtheimer and Frank Deis were able to find
it through Google.   (Which I had also tried, but Google didn't like me!)

Here's wishing all of the wonderful Samuel crew a wonderful holiday season and a very happy and healthy 2016 !

Hi Pat,
Can not find an obit or any sort of death record, including Social Security Death Index.
Best wishes for a great Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Howard

Capt. Ma'am,

As the Chief Navigator reported, a search for "Penny Rakestraw" at ancestry does not return a death record or obituary.  There is one hit in The Times Recorder of Zanesville, OH, on 3 Feb 1964:
9 In Area Get Degrees at Ohio U.
Two Zanesville residents and seven others from Muskingum and Belmont counties were awarded degrees at 203rd commencement exercises Saturday at Ohio University in Athens.
...
Those from Belmont County included... Penny L. Rakestraw of Martins Ferry, Bachelor of Science in Education...

There are also several hits for "Penny Blackford" - winning a prize in the Science Day Competition and such - which I can send you if you're interested.

Marsha,

Thank you for the information on my classmate, Penny Blackford Rakestraw.  Yes, BLACKFORD was her maiden name.  I didn't know that she had
married before she graduated from Ohio University.  Nor that her degree was in Education.  Not sure if she ever taught school anywhere.  Will have
to ask other classmates.

If it isn't too much trouble, I would like the other info you found on Penny BLACKFORD.  But, it can certainly wait until next week, after Christmas.
I think I said that Penny was our class valedictorian.   However, she was not one of the 4 seniors in our class chosen by the local newspaper as a
"Leader of Tomorrow."    Not bragging (?), but yours truly was one of those four, and so was my future brother-in-law.   Little did the newspaper know
that I would do absolutely "leaderly" until I became the Captain of the good Ship Samuel in 1991 !      Hah!  I showed them!!

So Pat,

How many of your classmates made Captain *twice*?

Merry Christmas, Crew!

Capt. Ma'am,

I can't find an e-mail address specifically for you in my "contacts", and all that shows up here is the generic Ship Samuel address.  So if you can send me an address where you'd like to receive the other extracts...

It may not be till the first week of January.  Husband gets the week between Christmas and New Year's off.
