I am attempting to deploy an app. Everything works as expected when I run it locally. I followed the instructions at:

for configuring my account and getting prepped to deploy my app.

When use the deployApp() function, I get the following error:

deployApp()
Preparing to deploy application...
Update application currently deployed at
DONE
Uploading application bundle...
Error in description$Priority : $ operator is invalid for atomic vectors
In addition: Warning message:
In utils::packageDescription(pkg) : no package 'BH' was found

I've googled for help on this error but haven't been able to locate anything. I've attached my server.R and ui.R files. Please let me know if you need anything else. I appreciate your help! My session info is below my signature.

Best,
Scott Baldwin

Scott,

Can you send the output of:

shinyapps::appDependencies()

Thanks

Scott,

I think the issue here is that you do not have the 'BH' package installed, even though the 'dplyr' package depends on it.

I would installed that package and try again.

Also, I've pushed a change to shinyapps package that should improve the error message in this case.

Scott,

See my previous note. In the list below that the BH package is missing for some reason. Install that and re-deploy.

Thanks for your help. I installed the BH package. Now I don't get the same error but get the following error:

Error: Unhandled Exception: Child Task 26317 error: Unhandled Exception: Invalid control character at: line 732 column 8 (char 46564)

I don't have a file in the app with 732 lines, so I wasn't sure where to look to fix this particular error.

Best,
Scott

Scott,

It looks like there is a strange file called "Icon^M" in your application directory with an invalid character in its name. Is this file necessary? If it is, can you rename it to something else without the control character in is name?

Hi Andy,

Got rid of the Icon? file in my directory (I'm not even sure what the file was -- it was a hidden file so I didn't realize it was there). Getting closer. Running into one more problem (see error below). Seems like another problem related to dplyr.

Incidentally, is there anyway that I could have figured out the problem with the Icon file from the error message (for debugging purposes on my end?

Many thanks.

Best,
Scott

I just wanted to quickly follow-up on this because I need to get the app deployed for our research group. Is 'dplyr' the hang-up here? Would I be better off trying to figure out my own installation of Shiny Server?

I really appreciate the support. I've enjoyed the software very much.

Best,
Scott

Scott,

I dont think dplyr should be an issue. The timeout error you got may of been a temporary error/bug. I would try to do deployApp() again and let me know the result.

Thanks,

Hi Andy,

Thanks. I ran deployApp() again (twice, just in case) and got the timeout error (see below). Thoughts?

Scott

According to the build log output:

Error: package 'Rcpp' 0.10.5 was found, but >= 0.10.6 is required by 'dplyr'

Which is interesting because ShinyApps uses whatever versions are installed on your system. And you say that things are working correclty when you use runApp().

Can you send the output of:

packageDescription('dplyr')

Thanks,

-Andy

Hmm...yes everything works great when I use runApp(). I will update Rcpp and see what happens. In the mean time, here's the output you requested:

Updating Rcpp fixed it and it is working now. Would a take home be to make sure all dependencies are updated prior to deploying, even if it is working locally?

Thanks so much for your help. Exciting to see it working. Again thanks!

Scott

Scott,

It seems strange that dplyr says it depends on Rcpp >= 0.10.6, but looks like it works with 0.10.5 on your machine. Either way, I'm glad to hear it's working. Please reach out if you run into further issues.

I think there was a big change pushed out to rcpp in the past day or two which will ultimately require reloading all packages that rely on rcpp.
