I have an app that runs fine locally, but as soon as I try deploying it to shinyapps.io, it gives me the following error.  I've replicated some sample deployments, but I can't get the ones I've authored uploaded.

The server.R and ui.R files are located within my local directory without any other files in there.

One thing I have noticed is that the my shinyServer function contains the session argument...Could that be it?

Thank you!

-Paddy

Patrick,

What is the error you are getting? Can you copy and paste the output?

Thanks,
-Andy

## Embedded Application

It's also possible to embed an entire Shiny application within an R Markdown document using the `shinyAppDir` function. This example embeds a Shiny application located in another directory:

```{r, echo=FALSE}
shinyAppDir(
  "D:/users/pmaloney/Desktop/code/analysisIdeas/shinyappsDir"
)
```

And, I select "Run Document", then "Deploy" it brings me to this screen:

However, it works on my local machine...

Hey Patrick,
Looks like you hard coded a path on your local machine that does not exist elsewhere (ie on a shinyapps server). Can you remove the absolute path from your code and try again? Maybe use a relative path instead?

You have a hard coded directory path to your application.  You should have a relative link there instead.  Hope that helps.

This is probably a really silly question, but how do I make a relative path link here?

I tried setting the working directory to ""D:/users/pmaloney/Desktop/code/analysisIdeas" and then running shinyAppDir('../shinyappsdir') but it gets me the same error message.

Sorry in advance, but also thank you!

I also tried dropping this folder into the shiny examples and using system.file().  Now, it's giving me this ERROR: path[1]="": No such file or directory

Try the following...
shinyAppDir('./shinyappsdir')

Now, it's back to the original error:

Error: No Shiny application exists at the path "./shinyappsdir"

Patrick,

I used your Rmd code here:

using this, while my shiny app files are in the "shinyapp" directory:

shinyAppDir(
  "./shinyapp"
)

and this works fine. Can you double-check your path, and the files in there.

Hey Fereshteh,

Thanks your for your reply!  I got it to work that way, but now I'm having an issue when trying to install.packages() with my own shiny apps.  How do you handle this?

Hi Patrick,

Glad that it is working now.

Can you be more specific on what you are trying to do? What package(s) you want to install? What command you run? What error you get?

Hey Fereshteh-

I'm starting to think you're my own personal debugger, but thank you very much!

I'm trying to install rCharts, but every time I try to display and rCharts plot, I get "showOuput" is not a function.  My workaround has been diving into ggvis, but I'm not that familiar with the syntax yet.  Would you recommend continuing down the ggvis path?  Or, is there a simple workaround for the rCharts error on my end?

Hi Patrick,

I am not very familiar with rCharts, but the error you are getting is most likely because you are not using "require(rCharts)" in your application files.

There is a simple Shiny example on their site: http://ramnathv.github.io/rCharts/

that might help you how to use rCharts within your own application.

Best of luck,
Fereshteh
