Dear ShinyApps users,
We are happy to announce improvements to the shinyapps.io service over the past few weeks. These include:
Support for BioConductor-based packages
Speed improvements on first-time builds of your applications
Support for more concurrent connections
Support for R packages that require the quantlib library
BioConductor support
You can now use your favorite packages from BioConductor and deploy them to shinyapps.io. Simply take any locally running shiny application or R markdown document and deploy it via deployApp(). The shinyapps package you create will identify the dependencies and pass them along to shinyapps.io.
Note: You will need to upgrade to the latest version of the shinyapps package by running the R command:
devtools::install_github(“rstudio/shinyapps”)
Faster build times
The time it takes for an app to deploy the first time has been improved significantly due to improved caching of packages. For the most common packages used, the performance of the build is now almost 5x faster. This improvement took effect last week. You don’t need to do anything to take advantage of it. Most app deployments are just faster now!
More concurrent connections per application
We have increased the limit on the number of concurrent connections that can be handled by an R process from 20 to 100.
Quantlib support
For users interested in using libraries like RQuantLib, shinyapps.io now bundles the underlying quantlib libraries into the core of the service making that possible.
Thank you all for your help in improving the shinyapps.io platform. We hope you like these enhancements and we look forward to your feedback as always.
Best,
The ShinyApps team
