Hi,

When I deploy an app to shinyapps.io, I got the following error:

Waiting for task: 404958
  building: Parsing manifest
################################## Begin Log ##################################
################################### End Log ###################################
Error: Unhandled Exception: Child Task 404959 error: Unhandled Exception: 'ascii' codec can't encode characters in position 79-81: ordinal not in range(128)
Execution halted

It seems that a file with Chinese file name broke something, might be a bug.

Hi Shel,
Can you make sure you're running the latest version of shinyapps, i believe that bug has been patched. Thanks.

You can do so via `devtools::install_github("rstudio/shinyapps")`

Hi Chad,
Yes I’m running the latest version of shinyapps.
I tried the following code inside an app dir just now.

devtools::install_github(“rstudio/shinyapps”)
shinyapps::deployApp() # works well
file.create(“中文名.txt”)
shinyapps::deployApp() # Error

The error message:

Hey,

There must be another encoding bug.

Can you send me the URL for your application?

Thanks

Yes of course. It's just the demo in the shiny document template.

Hi,

I just wanted to let you know that I deployed a fix for the bug(s) regarding UTF-8 encoded file names. If you wouldn't mind, could you try to deploy your app again, and let me know if it works?

As always, please ensure your source and datafiles are UTF-8 encoded.

-Andy
