Hi

I wanted to Deploy an App on shiny apps.io

I created an app that works fine on my local machine but deploying it is a challenge as some packages like Rstem were removed from CRAN and I manually installed those packages on my local R instance.

Whilst deploying on shiny apps the following error is displayed:

Unable to deploy package dependency 'Rstem'    The package was installed locally from source

Is there a work around?

thanks

Hi,

Currently ShinyApps only supports installing packages from CRAN or PUBLIC GitHub repositories.

However since this package was formally on CRAN you could try to install it by doing:

devtools::install_version('Rstem', '0.4-1')

Then running:

deployApp()

I am not 100% sure this will work, please let me know if it does.

Hey Andy

Tried the below but got the following error:

Error in url(sprintf("%s/src/contrib/Meta/archive.rds", repos), "rb") :
  unsupported URL scheme

Tell me something. I was able to deploy these packages locally on my machine on R through command line - CMD R BUILD, CMD R INSTALL etc.

All those work wonderfully. Cant we deploy the bin / compiled version of the program (which has already used the packages on my local machine to get compiled)?

Any other way we can deploy to shinyapps using custom packages. I run ML algorithms and train them on certain data sets and create custom packages out of those. Such packages may not be readily available on CRAN. Is there a work around?

regards
Abhishek

Abhishek,
We will be supporting private Github repos in the future. Would that solve your problem?

Hi

I think that would really help. Since a lot of code deployed may be from private github repos. Can you let me know by when this can be put in place?

thanks
Abhishek

Hi Abhishek,
We have the work on our roadmap, but it might be a couple of months before it is available.

Best,
Tareef

Hi Andy

Its been a while and I changed the code of my app and removed Rstem and other libraries from Server.R and ui.R.

When I use runApp() and deploy from my local machine it works fine, however when i try to use deployApp() the build fails by throwing the error message of Rstem package not supported. Only CRAN and Github repositories are supported.

Why is it still throwing error of Rstem although I have removed it from the files server.R and ui.R?

All files in the application directory are parsed and uploaded to ShinyApps. Do you have another file int he directory that uses RStem?

I understand. All files - ui.r, server.r, and other support files in the directory for deployment didn't have any references to rstem

While deploying the bundle of the previous version to shinyapps, a new folder was created with a .dcf file - not sure of the contents of that file though

Should that file / folder be deleted?

That shouldn't be necessary.

Can you send the output for shinyapps::appDependencies()

Thanks

Hi Tareef,

I have the same issue with Rstem. But what if one does not have a private github repo? And I agree that posting on public github would not work in this case. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Hi Olga,
Since this post, we have added support for private github repos which you can get by subscribing to github at the lowest plan levels.  Unfortunately we don't have a means yet to support uploading of the private package information.

Best,
Tareef
