Width of tabsetPanel

I am relatively new to Shiny and Bootstrap, so this might be a total noob question, but is it possible to change the width of the tabsetPanel? On my 1920x1080 screen, the tabset gets limited to about 40% of the width when I use a basicPage in ui.R. If I arbitrarily set the length of an html table to say 1000, the tabPanel only displays part of the table and adds a horizontal scroll bar for the rest, as you can see in the attached picture.

You can control this with CSS tags and make the main panel flexible. The problem is that bootstrap has predefined proportions for layout containers so you need to override them with your own.
Check out this topic. I posted tags for fixed sidebar panel and flexible main/tab panel.
The result should be a flexible main (tabs included) and fixed width sidebar.
