Hi,

I am new to shiny service from RStudio. I have installed few packages such as googleVis and DBI there successfully. But when I tried to ROracle, it is giving me following error message;

install.packages("ROracle")
Installing package(s) into ‘/home/ramdanish/R/library’
(as ‘lib’ is unspecified)
trying URL 'http://cran.rstudio.com/src/contrib/ROracle_1.1-8.tar.gz'
Content type 'application/x-gzip' length 161155 bytes (157 Kb)
opened URL
==================================================
downloaded 157 Kb

* installing *source* package ‘ROracle’ ...
** package ‘ROracle’ successfully unpacked and MD5 sums checked
configure: error: OCI libraries not found
ERROR: configuration failed for package ‘ROracle’

How can I install ROracle package there? and Do I need to have Oracle Database installed there?

Thanks in advance.

DK

Are you talking about on our servers, glimmer.rstudio.com and spark.rstudio.com? We don't have Oracle's OCI libraries installed there, no. Normally we're not averse to installing database client libraries but in this case there are no standard packages in the Ubuntu repositories, so I think we'd rather not support it unless there is great demand.

Would it be possible for you to periodically snapshot the data you need and upload it as a .csv or something? (Or else you could always run your own server on Amazon Web Services if you don't mind a little Linux system administration...)

Hi Joey,

Thanks for reply. Yes I am talking about spark.studio.com server so as per your reply, we will not be able to install ROracle also due to fact that spark.rstudio.com server does not support installation of Oralce's OCI libraries.

I guess, alternative approach is fine that is to upload CSV file there for a snapshot of the data.

DK
