to Shiny - Web Framework for R

I have followed the instructions on:

But when I try to bring up the welcome screen:

http://<server-address>:3838/sample-apps/hello/

It doesn't come up and I see the following in my browser:

The <server-address> page isn’t working

<server-address>

 didn’t send any data.

ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE

I navigated to /srv/shiny-server/sample-apps in my terminal window and confirmed Shiny has been installed and the sample app is there.

Is there anything in your /var/log/shiny-server.log file?

That file doesn't exist in /var/log for me.

Actually I think my issue is that I need to change my TCP permissions/settings in my AWS instance - I have an email out to our company's IT guy to remind me of the credentials to get into AWS as it's been > 1 year since I first set up this instance and have been in there...what I'm reading online is that I need to give my instance permission to accept traffic to the apps that probably isn't currently enabled...

Thanks,

Jared

That sure could be--you also need your AWS security group to allow traffic on that port (3838). But it's worrisome that the log file doesn't appear, it should be there just from Shiny Server starting up.

Yeah I just needed to added a customer TCP rule in my Amazon EC2 instance for Port 3838...I'm all good.  Still getting the hang of the whole system admin/config stuff...to this point in my career I've always had an "IT Department" to take care of that stuff but increasingly I'm learning to be my own IT departments...thanks for reaching out to help.
