Hi,

I am trying to install R under Linux, but while executing the command "./configure" i am getting the error:- "configure: error: --with-readline=yes (default) and headers/libs are not available".

What should i do to successfully execute the command?

Thanks in advance.
Mike

This isn't really the right forum for R installation questions, but, you need to install the readline headers/libs. On Ubuntu this is as simple as

sudo apt-get install libreadline-dev

On RedHat/CentOS it's

sudo yum install readline-devel

Hi Joe,

After executing the command "sudo yum install readline-devel"  i am getting message like below:-

Loaded plugins: product-id, refresh-packagekit, security, subscription-manager
Updating certificate-based repositories.
Unable to read consumer identity
Setting up Install Process
No package readline-devel available.
Error: Nothing to do

and after that i am getting the same error by executing the command "./configure". Could you please provide me the solution for the same.

Thanks,
Mike

As Joe said, this isn't really the right forum for R installation questions...

It looks like you're having a problem installing packages with yum. Offhand I don't know the solution for this, but once you get that figured out, you'll probably have to install several other packages to get R to compile. You might be better off simply installing a precompiled R package.

Thanks,
Mike

You could try R-Help:

Or the forums for whatever distro you're using. (Which distro is it?)
