I am writing a paper on an application I have developed which uses shiny, and I would like to include a proper citation.  Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Thank you for your time and attention,
Mike

It happens that I have been writing a paper these days, which also
needs to cite Shiny, and this is what I use for BibTeX:

@manual{shiny,
title={Easy web applications in R.},
author={{RStudio, Inc}},
year={2013},
note={URL: \url{http://www.rstudio.com/shiny/}}
}

If you want to cite the R package specifically, you can use
citation('shiny') in R.

Yihui

Is there any update to the preferred citation?
citation('shiny') is auto-generated from the description so maybe there is a more appropriate citation I can use?

No, we do not have a printed publication about shiny, so the only way
to cite shiny is as I said, either citation('shiny'), or

@manual{shiny,
title={shiny: Easy web applications in R},
author={{RStudio, Inc}},
year={2014},
note={URL: \url{http://shiny.rstudio.com}}
}

This answer is out of date and I encourage people to use citation("shiny") for the most current answer.
