Searching shifts across multiple webpages

Hello,

I am considering using shiftspace for a research project. Most of my
shifts will be private. Many of them will be comments on my own
material. Searching annotations is a primary concern. Are private
shifts stored locally? If so, where? If not, is it possible to install
my own database server so that I can query it directly? Are there
instructions about how to do this?
