The ShiftSpace team is happy to announce a new release of our
GreaseMonkey compatible version of MooTools. This release addresses
many of the common annoyances around the behavior of XPCNativeWrapper
in Firefox. It also allows developers to utilize the standard Request
object for making remote calls- it transparently uses
GM_xmlhttpRequest as the transport. In order to use this version of
MooTools, simple use the standard library including mechanism or paste
it at the top of your userscript. We've been using these modifications
on ShiftSpace for almost 2 years (it should be relatively bug free)
please let us know if you run into any trouble.

Dear developers,

four questions:

0. What are the mootools?
1. Where is the install script, how do we install this new script?
2. Why is the old version link still on Shiftspace.org, instead of the
new one?
3. Allows the license of the script to publish it in a wiki, to
analyze it ( by users and programmers ) in a wiki community?

Thank you

Sorry for the lack of clarification. This was a pretty developer oriented announcement.

0. MooTools is the JavaScript library that we use for main development.
1. It's not for user's, it's not even for ShiftSpace developers. It's our contribution to community of MooTools and JavaScript developers. We've been in the process of breaking out functionality that we think might be useful to other developers, not just those interested in hacking on ShiftSpace.
2. ? which link
3. Is there something in the license preventing you from doing this?

Thank you David,
sorry, it was my typo: I meant the link to the javascript.
Probably a lot of people, not only myself, are eagerly waiting for a new
link (to an install script for GreaseMonkey, working together with the older server),
placed on ShiftSpace.org.

Sorry, do you mean the upcoming 1.0 release or are you referring to an issue with the current ShiftSpace install link?

The date and version info of the current ShiftSpace install link suggests, that it doesn't refer to the upcoming 1.0 release.

As the current version doesn't allow for the notes to
* embed full HTML-code for
** rich link Wiki annotations, using a host wiki or
** embedding YouTube videos or
** embedding clickable ConceptMaps
** other SocialWidgets
* maximize the note window (especially for clickable ConceptMaps, (not-only) as a workaround for graphically connecting
  the different annotated pages)

its use for CommunityDevelopment is very restricted.

So I ask you (with full passion and appreciation, what you have already done), when will we have the next version link
to a install link on ShiftSpace.org.

If you'd like to follow the 1.0 development more closely and you don't mind fairly technical expositions I recommend that you join the developer list. I actually post updates every single week there :) http://groups.google.com/group/ShiftSpace-dev

While 1.0 development is moving along at a good clip it's still far enough away that we don't want to build to much public facing hype on the main website. We wouldn't want to get the John Gruber "vaporwave" face-slap now would we? ;)

These are all fine suggestions for improvements to the Notes Space. However these kinds of improvements will mostly likely appear after the initial 1.0 release. The 1.0 release is all about socially connecting users, have quick access/control to your content from anywhere, and providing sane content filters. Also it's a fairly significant backend scalability, stability, maintainability release for us. The most radical changes are "under the hood" so to speak.

Once that's out the door we'd like to focus on bug fixes. We think this is a version of ShiftSpace that people will be compelled to use everyday. After the major bugs are crushed there'll be feature freeze for the main ShiftSpace interface. After this we'll have more time to improve and extend the individual Spaces like Notes.

So I ask you (with full passion and appreciation, what you have already done), when will we have the next version link
to a install link on ShiftSpace.org.

If things go according to plan there might be a very buggy alpha for people play around with mid to late October. You're more then welcome to try it out when we get there.

We certainly hope so! :) We've been working on this release now for more than a year and we'd all like it see go out the door!

Thanks for your continued interest and copious patience.
