Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir
Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir (BICS) is the best and largest
organization working throughout the whole Bangladesh since its
foundation. It started its mission from the premise of Dhaka University
Central Mosque on 6th February 1977. BICS's target is to supply the
effective, qualified, efficient and dedicated leaders and workers to
the Islamic movement. It was also founded in order to protect the young
generation from the rapid deterioration of morality, humanity and
Islamic values.
Objective & Goal of Shibir
"It aims at attaining Allah's satisfaction by restructuring the
overall life of the human being in accordance with the guidelines
derived from Allah and presented by the Prophet Muhammad (SM)".
Agenda
In order to achieve the aforesaid objective and goal, Islami
Chhatrashibir has set forth the following five-point scientific agenda:
One : Inviting the young students to Islam and getting them equipped
with Islamic knowledge and inculcating a sense of responsibility that
helps them exercise Islam in practical life.
Two : Organizing the students and getting them prepared to take part in
the struggle of establishing Islamic life style under the association.
Three : Imparting Islamic knowledge to the students already associated
with this association, shaping them up as model characters and taking
initiatives to help them become efficient members of the society.
Working to prove the supremacy of Islam by confronting all the
challenges of the immoral activities.
Four : Struggling to change the existing educational system by
introducing a new system based on the ethics of Islam with a view to
make model citizens and to lead the campaigns aiming at the solution of
the real problems of the students.
Five : Continuing all-out efforts through an Islamic revolution with a
view to salvage the humanity from financial exploitation, political
oppression and cultural bondage.
Central Committee for the Year 2006
Following its glorious tradition, Shibir has finished setting up the
central committee and the branch presidents properly in due time. The
newly elected Central President for the year 2006 is Md. Shofiqul Islam
Masud and the new Secretary General is Md. Zahidur Rohman. The
remaining figures of the Central Secretariat are mentioned below with
their respective duties:

Organizational Strength
Alhamdulillah, Shibir has always been successful to draw the attention
of the students of Bangladesh for its all-round activities and dynamic
programs. Now Shibir is the largest student organizations of
Bangladesh. We have about two hundred thousand regular workers and 2
million supporters. The activists in Shibir are divided categorically
into three cadres :
1. Worker 2. Associate 3. Member.
This cadre system is the keynote of Shibir's quality development and
structural discipline.
Shibir has two types of branches :
1. Institutional 2. Residential.
There are 111 branches and 20,000 units all over the country. We have
strong branches in every university, medical colleges, agricultural and
engineering universities, most of the schools, colleges and technical
institutions. Islami Chhatrashibir has rooted its branches in almost
all Madrasas.
Organizational Status in Universities
Shibir has been able to attract university students in a great number
by its effective Dawah works and unique ideology. By the work of last
years Shibir has become the major student organization in Chittagong
University, Rajshahi University, Sylhet Shahjalal University, Khulna
University, Islamic University and Mymensingh Agriculture University.
In almost all of the remaining public or private universities including
The University of Dhaka, Shibir now has become a leading organization -
either second, or third in respect of influence and popularity. The
most creative and energetic part of the new generation - university
students are nevertheless leaning to Shibir as a refuge being
frustrated from the hollow and bankrupt student politics.
School Project
School-students are also closely involved with Shibir. Shibir has
specially designed programs for recruiting the school going students.
Every year a good number of school students join Shibir. All workers
are systematized to build up a hearty and personal relationship with at
least two school students as Dawah work. Every year Shibir observes
School-Dawah-Fortnight. During this period Shibir distributes
attractive booklets on Islam like 'Esho Aalor Pathe', 'Muktir
Paygaam', 'Kishor Mone Bhabna Jage' etc., Dawah cards, class
routines, academic materials, a brief identity of Islami Chhatrashibir
and so on. It publishes two successful monthlies- one Bengali named
'Natun Kishore Kantha', and another English named 'Youth Wave'
for the young school going students. Recently Shibir has given a grand
celebration to those obtaining the best grade A+ or GPA 5.0 in S.S.C
and Dakhil exams what has got great response and excitement and
increased interest in young students and their guardians.
Dawa'h Activities
To spread Islamic knowledge and make the young people understand about
the real message of Islam, Shibir is doing regular Dawah activities.
Every Shibir worker has to invite new students to the path of Allah.
Allowing for this, Shibir organizes invitation program as "Dawah
Fortnight" every year to increase its supporters. It also organizes
special seminar, symposium, discussion program and what not in this
regard. On the occasions of Dawah week and school-dawah-fortnight in
2004, Shibir took huge programs and about half a million new students
joined Shibir through them. As it has been clear from the above,
Shibir's Dawah work can be categorized into three levels to keep in
accordance with different psychology : (1) School level/ O'level/
Secondary level (2) Higher secondary/ A'level/ College level (3)
Graduation/ University level. Shibir has two more magazines, 'Chhatra
Sangbad' (Students news) and 'Students' Views' to serve Dawah
work. It also publishes magazines on the occasion of various Islamic
days. Shibir organizes 'Tafseer Mahfils' in different districts of
the country, what proves a very successful and effective Dawah program.
The regular Dawah works of all branches include monthly general
gathering, group Dawah work, sending groups led by the meritorious.
Contribution of ICS on Student Politics
Student Politics has a glorious history and achievement in Bangladesh.
There was a time when student politics was led by the meritorious. It
is nothing but student politics that brought about the victory of
language movement as well as liberation war. But after the liberation
the student politics has been loosing its glory and has become a hollow
useless institution of fight, competition of selfish interest. However,
Shibir since its birth has been trying to change the trend of student
politics. Shibir is committed to regain ideological basis for student
politics and promote an environment of co-operation, mutual patience
and leadership of the meritorious therein. Till now the organization
has been quite able to create a distinct stream of student politics and
to exercise a rational influence on government on just issues
Alhamdulillah.
Achievement of Shibir in Students Union Elections
We can not but be grateful to Allah, Shibir has continued the flow of
its acceptability to common students in the year 2006 like past years.
This year also students have elected Shibir as their representatives in
the students' unions of many notable institutions such as Khulna
Mohshin College and Jessore Polytechnic.
Shibir in Dhaka City
Shibir has started its historical and glorious journey from the most
prestigious and best educational institution, the University of Dhaka.
But because of the conspiracy of secular and communist parties, Shibir
did not get expected response. To make a real change in Dhaka City,
Shibir has introduced many novel programs. In Dhaka College, Titumir
College, Jagannath University College and other colleges, Shibir has
taken different types of program including GPA-5 Receiption programe,
Iftar Mahfil, Hundreds of thousands of students have participated
spontaneously in these programs.
Training Programs
Many effective and thought-provoking programs are taken to impart
Islamic knowledge to brothers gathering under the banner of Shibir. It
is trying to formulate its activities in training program throughout
the whole session. Every year a good number of training camps (TC) are
organized both centrally and locally, where thousands of delegates
attend from every corner of the country. Besides, hundreds of training
sessions, study circle, collective study programs, Qur'an study
classes are also arranged. We have special programs for Tajweedul
Qur'an (correct recitation of the Quran) and school students. The
training programs of Shibir emphasize on promoting Taqwa,
consciousness, ethical sense and leadership quality in the manpower and
build them up as good Daees (Callers of Islam)
Shibir is a distinct and unique campus of life
Although Shibir is a student organization comprised of hundreds and
thousands of students of different educational institutions, it enjoys
predominance on other organizations. While our traditional institutions
simply teach the students the ephemeral knowledge, Shibir helps them
learn Islamic knowledge. The outstanding philosopher of Bangladesh
Principal Dewan Muhammad Azraf had said, "Islami Chhatrashibir is a
unique organization to build the young generation as Insan-e-kamel or
full bloomed man." The workers of Shibir are to maintain personal
report that habituates them to read the Quran, Hadith, Islamic and
other literature, academic books, newspapers etc. It also gets them
inured to perform Dawah, self-criticism and to hold scheduled meetings
and programs. Besides, the workers of Shibir engage themselves in
prayer at the dead of night and they kneel down to Allah through
Sijdah. Shibir has a comprehensive central planning and a regular
detail works maintained by all branches to design and develop
prospective careers of Shibir workers.
Promoting Academic Exercise
In the age of globalization and this ever-changing world, Shibir has a
view to generate in its workers in general a profound science-mentality
i.e the urge and curiosity in the divine mega-system of the universe
established by Almighty Allah. It also has a plan to build up science
students in particular capable to cope with and face the modern
challenge of science and technology. For the secondary and higher
secondary level students, Shibir has published 'Understanding Science
Series', which covers physics, chemistry and biology syllabus.
Exceptional presentation of this series has already drawn the
attraction of the meritorious students, guardians and teachers. Its
circulation is increasing day by day. Shibir believes that this series
will play an important role in the realm of science education. Recently
Islami Chhatrashibir arranged `National Book study compition 2006'
which is the first initiative ever take in Bangladesh. Shibir had
published a magnificent Science Calendar for the year 2006, which has
got a wide recognition and great popularity.
Cultural Activities
To face cultural hegemony or aggression of satellite and cyber culture,
Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir has strong and attractive literary and
cultural activities. Under this program we have more than one hundred
literary and cultural organizations. Saimum Shilpi Gosthi, Panjery,
Tiphun, Batikrom, Renaissance, Durnnibar, Bikalpa, Uccharan, Prottay,
Probaha, Angikar are some renowned Islamic literary and cultural wings
of Shibir. In order to fulfill the demand of recreation of the present
young generation, Shibir is trying to do every thing possible such as
making CD, VCD of Islamic songs, plays etc and holding cultural
ceremonies. It has already obtained a new position in common cultural
market. Hundreds of people have shown theirs interest and love to such
kind of Islamic cultural presentations. In the year 2006 also Shibir
organized "Kishor Kantha Writer Conference Prize Giving Ceremony for
Literature". Prominent literary figures of the nation like Professor
Chemon Ara, Abdul Hai Sikder and Mahbubul Haq were awarded in the
program.
At present anti-Islamic cultural media like satellite channels and
Internet are creating great threats for the deep-rooted religious
tradition of ours as well as for Islamic movement. Western and Indian
sky-culture aggression appears as dangerous elements often. To face
this alien culture, Shibir is trying its level best to present an
Islamic trend of culture and literature to the nation. But our all
attempts will go in vain if we cannot reach this Islamic culture to the
doors of the mass people. For this, a satellite channel is a crying
need for us.
Educational Movement
Reform of education system and struggle for widening the scope of
Islamic education is at the root of the entire works of Shibir. This
organization bears the inheritance of Shaheed Abdul Malek's martyrdom
for Islamic education movement. From the very beginning, Shibir has
tried its level best to develop Madrasha education. In the year 2004
Shibir presented memorandums to the speaker of 'Jatio Sangsad'
(National Parliament) and to the committees formed by the present
Government for the reform Madrasha education and for giving it
recognition and affiliation of the National University. This is no
doubt an outcome of Shibir's longtime struggle that Government has
taken decision to recognize 'Fazil' & 'Kamil' certificates as
regular graduation degree and M.A respectively.
Shibir on National Issues
Shibir has ever been clamorous on national issues time to time and
helped increase positive environmental pressure. Over the last whole
year Shibir as usual called on important ministers, distinguished
politicians, diplomats, intellectuals, journalists and cultural workers
to voice Shibir's claim on different national issues. Shibir has
already thrown several programs in against of the conspirators like
Awami Leage and the militant's bombers to make awareness of the people.
Only of this crisis moments Shibir arranged processions and a huge
students gathering in the Paltan Ground. Shibir presented its proposal
regarding national education policy by holding a educational-cultural
seminar.
Shibir at International Level
Shibir has had a radiant and remarkable contribution in international
issues conserving Islam and humanism in the same way as it did to the
national issues. In 1979 when Soviet Union made an aggression on
Afghanistan, Shibir burst out protesting it. Similarly, when the U.S.A.
made an aggression on the same country named "anti terrorism war",
Shibir protested this inhuman attack strongly. Shibir also protested
Hindus and Zionist genocide and massacre on Muslims in Gujrat and
Palestine. Shibir has always supported the freedom fighters of Kashmir,
Arakan, Cheychnia, Palestine, and Mindanao. The organization gave the
whole nation a shake to come forward to protest against the Qur'an
confiscation in India in 1985. In the protest of Babri Mosque
demolitions, Shibir concentrated public opinions all over the country
and besieged the Indian High commission in 1990 and at the same time
against the Yankee intervention in Middle East in the disguise of
multinational troops. Apart from this, Shibir is always with the
suppressed, oppressed, repressed and the swash buckling Muslims of the
world like Palestinians, Kashmireans, Bosnians, Algerians and the like.
Very recently Shibir has brought out several processions protesting
Israel's brutal attack and massacre against Lebanon and Palestinian
Muslims without any reasons. Besides this Shibir has been taking
comprehensive attempts of condemnation and protest against the
shameless British-American attack on Iraq violating all kinds of ethics
and reason from the very beginning of the incident.
As an organization Shibir now has entered from national to
international arena and become an influential part of international
Islamic movement. Shibir is regularly invited to take part in
international view-sharing programs regarding Islamic movement. Last
year the Central President of Shibir had a tour to the United Kingdom
being invited by the Islamic Forum Europe (IFE). It was an influential
program over there. In the same way a group of Shibir leaders went to
Pakistan, Malaysia and Srilanka to attend programs there.
Shibir on Religious Affairs
Shibir arranges programs on various religious issues. It holds colorful
procession welcoming the holy month of Rabiul Awal and Ramadan. Every
year Shibir observes Siratunnabi (SM) with due respect and solemnity.
In this year, Shibir has arranged a number of 'Siratunnabi Mahfils'
throughout the whole country. Shibir also arranges hundreds of Ifter
Mahfil and discussion on Ramadan in every branch all over the country.
Besides, Shibir offers religious gathering for making an opportunity of
spreading Islam on various religious days among the people and
students. Every year Shibir observes the Eid re-union in every branch.
Welfare Activities
Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir runs many students welfare programs,
which includes scholarship, lump sum stipends, and help for the poor
and brilliant students. Besides, Shibir serves free coaching, lending
books, free medical service and publishes the most comprehensive and
useful admission guides for the university, medical and other
colleges' admission. Shibir has a regular process of blood donation.
Every year the poor people of Bangladesh face various types of natural
calamities. Drought, flood, cyclone, epidemic diseases like cholera,
dengue fever, diarrhea and tidal casualties from the coastal areas
endanger a great suffering to the masses. Shibir always stands beside
the affected people suffering from natural disaster such as flood,
cyclone, tornado etc. In the year 2004 Bangladesh saw as many as two
widespread floods. Shibir employed its all round forces to actively
take part in the relief and rehabilitation programs for the flood
affected people in the most catastrophic days of them. Shibir has taken
necessary steps for tree plantation to save the environment of the
country and has distributed winter clothes among the helpless.
Handsome Publications
The gigantic publications of Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir are a
splendid and golden chapter of our organizational history. Shibir
publishes multifarious things like identity pamphlet, diary, calendar,
sticker, poster, placard and so on. The standard of these publications
are upgraded enough to hearten our well-wishers and workers to be well
equipped. It is a matter of overwhelming joy that a handsome number of
students and people are the subscribers of these publications. Shibir
also formulates the theories of mathematics, sciences and language to
ease the study for the students. Shibir-published diary and calendar
have added a new dimension in the respective publication and have been
able to attract wide attention for their instrumental, informative and
educative value.
The child magazine 'Kishorkantha' was first published in 1984 with
5000 copies per month. In 1997, "Kishor Kantha" was turned into a
monthly magazine. Now its circulation is about 1,50000 (one Lac and
fifty thousands). We will be able to enhance this demand if we get
adequate help from our well-wishers. 'Chhatra Sangbad' has been
being published since 1978. Now its circulation is around 30000.
'Student Views' has been being published since 1985 and 'Youth
Wave' since September, 2001. Now its circulation is about 25,000. The
demand among the students is much more than the present number. If we
get fund, we would publish the required number, insha-allah.
Thorn-strewn way of Shibir
The enemies of Islam attack and oppress the workers of Bangladesh
Islami Chhatrashibir whenever they get scopes. Shibir has been facing
various false propaganda, obstacles, attack and torture since 1977. The
anti Islamic forces have been opposing Shibir since its formation. They
attack Shibir workers and leaders without any provocation and
simultaneously they try to make Shibir responsible for the incidents.
Their weapon is media and propaganda.
In the last 29 years, 124 energetic, sincere and committed leaders and
workers of Shibir embraced martyrdom in the hand of these brutal,
fanatic, heinous and atheist forces. 4 brothers in 1982, 7 brothers in
1985, 4 brothers in 1986, 4 brothers in 1987, 7 brothers in 1988, 11
brothers in 1989, 2 brothers in 1990, 2 brothers in 1991, 9 brothers in
1992, 14 brothers in 1993, 6 brothers in 1994, 12 brothers in 1995, 8
brothers in 1996, 4 brothers in 1997, 3 brothers in 1998, 11 brothers
in 1999, 3 brothers in 2000, 4 brothers in 2001, 2 brothers in 2002, 2
brothers in 2003, 1in 2004, 2 in 2005 and last 1 in 2006 were killed by
the anti Islamic forces. Besides, hundreds of workers have got serious
injury in the hand of these anti Islamic forces. Our brothers have lost
their legs, eyes, hands and different organs of their body. Thousands
have been tortured at different times.
The Subtle Scheme of Secular Organizations
In Bangladesh some secular political organizations and communities are
fabricating devastating conspiracy to divert the children and young
students from the path of Islam. They are trying to inculcate
anti-Islamic ideas into their minds. For this reason they have taken a
long-term plan. A group of so-called secular intellectuals has been
assisting them to reach their goals. All these organizations influence
the students to gain worldly profit. They put secular ideas into their
heads very tactfully through their different colorful and calculated
activities. They organize various programs such as dance, music, beauty
and fashion show competitions etc. Almost all of them are contradictory
to Islam. They have also established many libraries. A large number of
secular writers have been created in the same process in our country.
They are also writing novels and giving fuel to the secularism.
Sometimes they arrange literature competition and the simple-minded
students give a perusal in every lines of the book to get a prize. As a
result, unconsciously they get an adverse idea about Islam. They also
arrange short film festival in different hall rooms. Most of these
films are anti-Islamic. In some drama, Muslim bearded persons with cap
are pictured as the culprit of the society. The Islamic customs are
teased and criticized. They also publish magazines that are full of
venom. On the contrary, these lead the soft-minded young to go astray.
Through all these ways they do not leave any stone unturned to paint
Islam as a backdated religion. The Islamic organizations are called
'fundamentalist'. These secularists are getting all the helps from
certain print and electronic media. In the daily and weekly papers and
magazines, a group of so called intellectuals in our country, who are
backed by the Western and Hindu power are writing page after page
against Islam. In the name of secular humanity, they are destroying the
character of students and importing anti-Islamic culture. They are
trying to make the girls understand that if they abide by the rules of
Islam they will lose their liberty and they will be ceased in a house.
All this propaganda is encircling our young like a force of storm. They
are losing the moralities and values. Many students are being engaged
in different anti-social activities. If we give a close look to the
root of these anti-social and anti-Islamic activities of the students,
we find that the secular education and culture are mainly responsible
for all these happenings. False propaganda is another common trick of
anti-Islamic people what has as well been used widely over these years
against Shibir.
Shibir's intention to face these intrigues with
inadequate resources
In order to face with the anti-Islamic aggression and the degradation
of the values of Bangladeshi teenagers and the young, Bangladesh Islami
Chhatrashibir publishes magazines and papers and cultural products to
recoup the Islamic values. This is a big and tough job. Vast and
multifarious steps have to be taken. To put it more simply, Shibir is
facing huge problems with a lot of constraints regarding such efforts
especially in financial sector. Publication necessitates huge cost that
cannot be endured over time if we do not have sufficient fund.
Source of Income
The economic source of Shibir is the Baitul Maal collected from every
level of organization. The contribution of the workers and well-wishers
is the main source of income. Shibir also collects 'Jakat'. We use
the money according to Quranic direction. No shame to mention, Shibir
is always facing financial crisis and it falls often in a hard nut to
crack position to implement good plans and accelerate attractive and
amusing programs in order to hold the good prospects and sides of Islam
before the people. In this technological age, it is a crying need to
have technological equipment to spread Islamic ideas. For this we need
financial investment and help from our national and International
well-wishers to run our Dawah activities more effectively. We awfully
hope that our beloved brothers in Islam, who have the capabilities will
come forward and extend their helping hands for the expansion of
Islamic activities.
Shaheed Family Welfare Fund
Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir has formed a Trust named 'Shaheed
Family Welfare Fund.' The aim of this trust is to help the Shaheed,
injured, destitute and disabled for the cause of movement. It has
already helped more than 75 Shaheed families and treated hundreds of
injured workers. It looks after and helps establish the victims and the
family members of the Shaheeds. This fund ensures the treatment
including consultancy, medicine, operation (if needed) etc. of the
victims. The expenses of the false cases filed against the Shibir
workers by the evil force are maintained by this fund throughout the
whole year. We hope that if our national and international well-wishers
sacrifice their best in this purpose, we will be able to express our
due gratitude to the Shaheed families.
Our Future Plan
Shibir is an ideal organization. To spread the Islamic ideology, we
have made some future plans that are as follows :
·To preach the Islamic ideology to the students, teachers,
educationists and intellectuals of the whole country by using various
publications, printing and electronic media etc.
·To build up the students as followers of Islam.
·To formulate the career in the light of Islam.
·To supply the eligible leaders for the greater Islamic movement.
·To assist the greater Islamic movement for the Islamization of the
whole country.
·To materialize the above-mentioned objectives, Shibir would like to
clarify its aim by holding seminar, symposium, training camp and open
discussion.
·And to set-up a resourceful vast library designed with all modern
equipment and necessary facilities, which will provide important books,
magazines, documentaries, audio-visual materials etc. on
multidisciplinary fields.
Conclusion
Nothing can subdue the indomitable spirit of Shibir's manpower to
establish deen of Allah in Bangladesh in spite of various types of
obstacles. Shibir is advancing towards its manzil (goal) day by day. In
the meantime, Shibir has proved that their sacrifice is only for Islam
but not for any personal gain. We believe that all these achievements
are signs of Shibir's bright and optimistic future for an Islamic
movement. Inshallah, by the grace of Allah (SWI), the workers of Shibir
will establish the long-desired Islamic society by their honest effort
very soon. May Allah grant our endeavors. n
