I've posted before about issues with links to shibboleth protected resources in Microsoft office products not working when you click on them

Does anyone know if there has been any improvement or workarounds to the problem, particularly for Office 2010?

This issue has again raised it's head here and unfortunately using intermediate link like http://tinyurl.com doesn't fix the issue, the tunyurl redirect and the SP redirect get processed by the office suite before the browser gets fired up and the login server does not know where to send users.

I was under the impression altering the relayState property and using the
storage-service backed option for that was a solution to the problem.
