Hi there,
I have some friends who have been working very hard to launch this collaboration space at the New Museum
http://www.newinc.org/
The reason I'm passing it to you is because the director expressed a real vision for giving access to these resources ( other tenants, a whole lot of legal and accounting and art as business practice help, workshops, and other services for emerging professional artists - especially in new fields like video games) to a wide, diverse group of tenants and creativity.
Towards this, they are working on getting a good porton of the memberships subsidized entirely, aka, free, which is awesome.
If actually free, then it is a pretty great resource for some people - and they encouraged me to encourage people to apply regardless of the price if this is something of benefit for them, because they are pushing a serious effort in fundraising to be able to offer this for free to at least a certain number of people, or low cost, and can help those conversations out after applications are made.
This program something we wanted to actually take on a little at Babycastles (a game development madhouse with fabrication/hacking/architectural/performance/sculptural equipment and peers sharing membership), but are not implementing the program in the near future - so this is something that at least sort of stands in the same space in the near-term, especially if they successfully reduce the cost.
So if it seems like it might make sense to you, and you work say in tech/arts/new kinds of journalism/etc, if it was subsidized/free, might make sense to apply!
cool!
