Hello Friends,
I am writing after a long time, probably the first time to many of you. I am presently working with an organization based in rural Assam - district Chirang (a part of autonomous region - Bodoland). The organization has been working since past 15 years and kind of become a guardian to look up to - within the region, despite its name 'the ant' (the action northeast trust).
You may check the website:
www.theant.org, however we are trying to revamp the website to bring it to the next level. Internet is not really a WiFi affair here, so it takes a bit of time. But we should be done within the next 2 months anyhow.
The reason I am writing this email specially is about something we have been conceptualizing since past couple of weeks. Our annual meeting celebration takes place in the 2nd week of October every year, and we usually take the entire staff - approx. 50-60 people out to some place, stay there, eat there and do the meeting and round of talks and planning. Of course a good deal of time is spent in enjoying the place, like the last year we went to Shillong.
The idea this time is to take everyone to Mumbai - but not by train - by flight. The idea of getting onto a flight in itself is exciting for a large number of people, who have never seen places beyond their own district - forget Kolkata. The organization has thought of charging a small amount every person every month to collect the fare from Guwahati to Mumbai, while the organization pays for everything else (including return from Mumbai). But since the bulk booking requirement take a toll on every discounts we hear day to day, every seat would not cost us less than Rs. 7000 anyhow (even though if you book now individually, you might have to pay only Rs. 4000 for october 2016).
We were wondering if anyone could support us in ways possible for them like:
a) connecting us with the foundations of Airlines - for cheaper tickets or whatever possible
b) if we could crowdfund possible amount - so that we can take a breath
c) any other help with networks etc. would be really great
The idea that people pay for one-side fare is applicable to make them feel responsible towards their trip, however a lot of people earn less than 8000 per month, so it becomes really difficult for them. Affording a train ticket worth Rs. 800 (a sleeper class) is still fine, but we have a special dream - 'dream to fly'.
Do write to me or call me up with any queries, ideas, suggestions or support possible. Please avoid writing to the entire group (unless required so) to maintain the sanity of everyone's mailboxes. Thank you so much in advance :)
