STRIPMALL BALLADS
Indie / Folk
While compared by some reviewers to Woody Guthrie, Kurt Cobain adn
A.P. Carter, Stripmall Ballads has developed a style entirely his own:
poetic, dark, energetic, possessed, and reluctantly romantic. An
obvious devote student of US roots musical tradition, he fuses
virtuosic historical convention with contemporary lyrics. Not afraid
of musical experimentation or the power of words, his prolific
performances and recordings have earned him a reputation for being
somwhere in between “a fire and brimstone preacher and a beat poet.”
Phillips Saylor’s ability to take a crowd from stomping their feet to
quiet reflection and back again is the result of nearly a decade of
non-stop touring and performing across North America; from his early
days playing shows to hobos under Maryland’s railroad bridges to
recent collaborations with some of new-folks most talented performers
(Jolie Holland, Sam Parton). With a new album, “Hooked”, slated for
release in 2009, Stripmall Ballads continues to evolve and surprise.

Green Line Debuts Beans-N-Screens 2009…Join us June 26
We’re super-excited here at Green Line to be the debut venue for the
2009 version of Beans-n-Screens, an art benefit project organized by
the Philly-based Independents Coffee Cooperative and curated by arts
entrepeneur Sam Verrill. Beans-N-Screens brings together unique and
affordable coffee-themed screenprints by leading artists and designers
from around North America for a great cause. Sales of the prints
benefit the hard-working coffee farmers of Cooperativa San Fernando,
located high in the Peruvian Andes mountains.
The 2009 Portfolio debuts at Green Line on Locust, Friday June 26 at
5pm, with refreshments and live music!

Coffee has always been right there fueling the work of artists. And
independent coffeehouses like Green Line provide artists a simpatico
place to meet and hang out. With Beans-n-Screens, independent coffee
purveyors and coffee-loving artists pay homage, both to the drink
itself, and to the labors of those who produce it.
