Come to listen, enjoy, dance and even whirl! With Boulder based dance teachers performing for us ~
An experience we need in the cold of Winter to celebrate the warmth inside What to expect:
First half - we sit • we listen • we are blanketed by Rachid's voice and the strings of his violin and oud. We immerse in vibrations of strings, hand drums, keys, and more voices of Jesse Manno, James Hoskins, Pete Jacobs, and Jonathan Kipp.
Dancers appear on stage in flowers, beads, and bangles, and flowing fabrics to make the music visible for you ~Dancers are: Eva Cernik, Amina Salah, Nawaar Dance Co. duet, and Ashanti of Tribal Misfits.
Second half - Eva will invite anyone with some experience in dervish whirling, to come to the general dancefloor and whirl to one mesmerizing improvised song. She will gently review for us what to keep in mind (and what not to keep in those minds of ours) when we whirl.
Next- Dance teachers take turns leading students in improvised dance ~ while any of us can join in too, in this precious opportunity to be bathed in some of the most loved sounds of Middle-Eastern and North African Music, right here in Boulder ~ *SNOW-DATE: If there is a blizzard that Saturday January 10th, please check this page or directly with Eva, as we might move the event to Sunday the 11th - same time - same place. But pleez confirm, as one person's snow flurries could be another person's blizzard! |
