Greetings fans of Sherefe,
Two events of interest in Boulder - Tomorrow Jan. 30, and this weekend Jan. 31, Feb 1, 2 - are to taking place.
Biz and I attended the performance of Zoe Aqua and Katlan last night at the Savoy in Denver. It was frankly breathtaking!
They played traditional violin-based music from Hungary, Transylvania, and Americana traditions. Their pitch - both vocally and on violins and brach (rhythmic bowed viola-like instrument held beneath the chin) was impeccable, as well as the fast paced melodic lines being amazing in unison and harmony. Their take on American folk songs was refreshing, with original arrangements.
Our highest recommendation.
Also, this weekend at the Dairy center for the Arts, “Momentum” this years’ offering by long-standing local dance organization “The Mariposa Collective” features original live music and brand new choreography. Jesse Manno and James Hoskins of Sherefe have each composed 2 scores, as have fellow notable musicians Victor Mestas and Tober Schorr.
The Musicians are collaborating throughout the evening. Playing on their own, and each other’s compositions.
It is a unique opportunity to see this kind of collaboration, with such a breadth of music, skills, and creativity from both the Music and the Dance worlds!
Please come out to these events, I know you will be most pleased that you did! — James Hoskins
