Why would a person drive to Ward, Colo, to see our "We Carry A Green Wreath" concert tomorrow?
|

Remember when we told you about this concert back in June? Now it is upon us!
Journey with Planina TOMORROW to the charming, historic mining town of Ward, Colorado for an intimate concert celebrating spring and summer traditions from Eastern Europe.
#1: What better way to experience
summer and then spring as you travel from the near-100-degree heat in the lowlands to the high country of Colorado? Up in Ward, the wildflowers are blooming, the town spring flows with sweet water, and the air is cool. Or maybe even brisk.
(Who knows? It’s Colorado! Bring a sweater.)
#2: Enter the Union Congregational Church of Ward, built in 1894-95, the perfect venue for an unamplified concert where no seat is very far from the performers. Some of
our songs explore some very old traditions, and it's fun to experience them in rustic setting.
#3: You'll hear a wide variety of music from Bulgaria, Croatia, Georgia, Macedonia, Poland, Russia, Serbia, and Ukraine
— some
a cappella, some accompanied by instruments. The songs range from intimate trios to breathtaking choral pieces ("breathtaking" takes on a new meaning for us at 9,450 feet elevation) and rousing dance songs!
#4: You'll be helping us raise funds for two purposes: Planina's next overseas study trip (summer 2027: Croatia and Serbia!) and a handful of Ward nonprofits (the church, the library, the
food box, and the community garden).
#5: The early timing
of this concert means that there will still be light outdoors when it's time to drive back down the hill.
One of our members, Maitreyi Prajna, lives near Ward and this concert in this church is the fulfillment of a longtime dream for her and for our group. We hope you will be able to join us!
