  1. Latkapalooza II: a Chanukah Celebration.  Thursday December 18 at the Velvet Elk Lounge in Boulder.
Tix: $15.90 . 2027, 13th Street, Boulder, CO
Get ready to party at LatkePalooza II! Celebrate Chanukah at Velvet Elk Lounge with latkes, dancing, music from Hal Aqua and the Lost Tribe and a Boulder Klezmer Jam session.
And of course, we’ve got latkes to keep you munching all night. Celebrate the Chanukah season with good vibes and great company—everyone’s invited! Big thank you to our partner, Boulder JCC!
Hal Aqua and The Lost Tribe play klezmer and Yiddish fusion music -- an exuberant musical experience, rooted firmly in traditional Jewish modes and melodies and driven by contemporary rhythms and danceable grooves. The versatile musicians who make up the band have a deep respect for their source material, from the evocative tunes of Eastern European Jews and Roma to the sinuous rhythms of the Middle East and Mediterranean. Their songs draw equally from the Yiddish tradition of social action, the spiritual fervor of Chasidic music, and the get-off-your-butt-and-dance party vibe of a Jewish wedding.
The Boulder Klezmer Jam was initiated in July, 2024, to make klezmer music available to interested local musicians. The group meets on the fourth Monday evening of each month.  Participants have learned the specifics of klezmer melodies, modes and accompaniments, and have practiced learning tunes both by ear and by reading sheet music.  Attendance has been good, with musicians participating from both Boulder and Denver.

4)  New Year's Day evening (yes, January 1) : Barbelfish at the Avalon in Boulder, Sodal Hall, 7:30 pm. Potluck snacks and drinks. 6185 Arapahoe Road Boulder, CO. Price TBD but <$20 probably.

One of my favorite bands (and yes, I'm biased). Tailored for international folk dancing. Start the new year right!
