We are presenting TWO GREAT SHOWS this weekend:

Alex’s Virtual Folk Arts Series Presents: A Dance Party with Barbelfish Balkan Band

Saturday, October 23, 7:30-9:30pm
Live at The Avalon, 6185 Arapahoe Rd, Boulder 80303 (map)
and Streaming Online! (register for livestream)

Barbelfish Balkan Band will appear as the final presentation in Alex’s Virtual Folk Arts Series 2021, a project of the Alex Wilson Legacy Fund. Barbelfish plays soul-stirring traditional music for dancing and listening from Eastern Europe and beyond, especially from Macedonia, Bulgaria and Greece. Exquisite melodies, soaring harmonies, driving rhythm, unusual instruments! Before the pandemic, they performed several times per year, but they haven’t played for a live audience since January 2020. They are so excited to play for you!

This party will be both in-person and live-streamed (the group’s first!).

For this performance, Barbelfish is Amy Self - clarinet, kaval, vocals; James Hoskins - gudulka (Bulgarian folk fiddle), cello, bouzouki, zurna, vocals; Julie Lancaster - tambura, accordion, vocals; Jesse Manno - percussion, vocals; Steve Mullins - tambura, guitar, mandolin, bouzouki, and special guest Laura Osterman, vocals.

Alex's Series is excited to present TWO ways to enjoy the concert:
  • Attend the live, in-person party at the Avalon. Proof of vaccination required for admission; masks required. Donation requested ($5 suggested) from those who are able, to defray the cost of the hall. No advance registration for the live party—just come to the Avalon in time for the party. Many dances are easy to follow, but there’s plenty of space to sit and watch if you prefer. Potluck snacks welcome! Doors open at 7:00.
  • Live-stream the concert on YouTube. A great option if you live too far away to attend in person or would like to enjoy the show from home. Attendance is free, but advance registration is required for the livestream; register at the link above.

From the organizers to those already registered:
We are expecting a lovely, fall day in the 60s, but we recommend bringing a light jacket.

Doors will open at 1:00pm, giving you time to enjoy a drink before the concert while you browse the beautiful artwork by Renee Walkup. A picnic snack will be waiting for you at your seat. The concert performance will begin at 1:30pm.

Your seats will be reserved for you, no need to print out your ticket or arrive earlier than 1:00.

Street parking will be available in the neighborhood. Please be attentive to where you are parking so you don't block any driveways. Carpooling is encouraged.

As rapid changes are happening in our community and the Delta variant becomes more prevalent, OTHA welcomes and encourages all to wear a mask for the concert.

We look forward to seeing you this Sunday, October 24th!

See you Soon!
