Hey Guys,

So I've been through the markets and seen the electronic parts, the shady cell phones, etc. Have you seen any people selling weird stuff, things out of the ordinary, stuff you won't see in Seg type of stuff? I'm looking for the electronic (and non-electronic) curios of Shenzhen.

I’d recommend the shanzai cell phones. There was one that was branded a Cartier lighter that actually had a lighter for cigarettes. I picked up a hello kitty smart phone and a bunch of other people got the bizarre mini iphone. Unfortunately I forgot the building name and you have to walk up to the fourth floor of a nondescript building to find the shanzai goods. Guess that doesn’t help much.

The building Akiba is referring to 23 Huafa Bei Lu, the "Mingtong
Digital City". 3rd and 4th floor have the highest concentration of weird
Shanzhai phones, but there are some gems on the other floors too.

I just bought a phone that looks like a Mac mouse there. It's fully
functional, you can use it as a mouse and it also makes phone calls. Weird.

Some other photos from the market attached.

Note: the first photo is actually not a cellphone but the Laser Man's IR transceiver test gun. He'll shoot the gun at a receiver, which goes off in alarm noises. Ask to test his laser diodes and he will lower a basket of DIY test jigs made of bottle caps and hot glue.  Clearly a man of many stories, you can find him on the first floor of the Seg market.  I recommend a visit!

Ha, we ran into that guy yesterday. He had an alarm hooked up to a small potted plant.

Yeah, we saw that too.  He has a toy gun hacked up with an IR LED that he uses to turn it on and off by shooting the plant.

This guy is amazing.  I ran into him with a group too. Definitely want to go back and chat. For the record though, he's on the 2nd floor. :D
