FW: Mandatory Freedom of Information Training – May 28, 2025

There will be class for the state’s Freedom of Information (FOI) law held at 10 am on May 28 at City Hall. There is a link towards the bottom of the email where you can sign up. The email announcement says it’s mandatory for commission members, but obviously a lot of people either work jobs or otherwise would not be able to attend, so I’ve asked for clarification. Nevertheless, I’ve attended a couple of these classes previously and it’s good info to learn. This is the law that requires public meetings, agendas, and minutes. There are also requirements that prohibit a quorum of members discussing commission matters outside of a public meeting (we now have 11 members, so a quorum is 6 people). You can’t meet privately in someone’s basement ahead of time and decide how the next meeting is going to go, for example. This Google email group, which can be viewed by the general public, was set up as a way to share info with each other between meetings,  but we need to take not to enter into “discussions” or make decisions via the group. It’s fine for sharing agendas, minutes, and photos or whatever, and say “let’s discuss this at the next meeting.” -Teresa
