I've had half a dozen online meetings this week alone. From doctors to condo boards, and architects overseas, I'm quite normal with it, but maybe I'm an outlier.
I do see benefit in sharing documents via the screen. The years gone by of looking over a roll of drawings in the p&z office during an in person meeting are not returning.
We could do a hybrid like P&Z, but there is no computer provided to conduct the electronic side of screen sharing to review documents on the big screen in the auditorium in person. We would also have to ensure we have either the auditorium or the small room on first floor with the TV screen, as they are the only two rooms I'm aware of that we could meet at. Plus there is no need to pay a custodian to maintain the building and close it when we finish.
The other benefit of an electronic meeting streamed onto YouTube is the transcript. We can go back to any meeting, ctrl-f search a good keyword like "canal Street" and jump right to that point in the meeting to see what is said rather than search thru minutes. I use that capability all the time for p&z or boa minutes which may be summarized and not provide the full flavor of comments made by various commissioners, plus you don't have to wait for minutes of those bodies to be prepared and posted online to learn what took place.
With all due respect, I'm hard pressed to see what is disgusting about meeting virtually.
