Shelton riverwalk

Greetings all,

 

This is from my Dublin trip last week.  This photo is of the River Liffey with the half-penny footbridge in the background.  My photo's purpose was to focus on showing that riverwalks can indeed cantilver off the shore as may be necessary at various points in Shelton.  It is my hope that this staying on the river possibility isn't lost to the Canal Street glorified sidewalk option around the Birmingham.  Interestingly, the lightposts had a bend so that the light fixture would splash light onto the walking area more evenly.  This was instead of having a longer arm off the post to reach out toward the footpath's centerline.  To hide the bend in the post, they have flower baskets mounted there.  Also note flower boxes on the walkway with ferns and color, and trash receptacles near seating areas (not easy to see the seats from this photos angle).  The pedestrian area at this location was formerly a typical streetside sidewalk that was diminished in size to provide more vehicular parking which is sorely needed in Dublin's booming economy (I counted 53 construction cranes from the Gravity Bar on top of the Guinness Brewery)

 

Examining the photo, it's also nice to have an international symbol for "no dogs and bikes" instead of a large sign with a whole lot of thou-shalt-nots with references to ordinance numbers that mean nothing to the average person.

 

I was parked on the street shown about a block away.  The parking stand allowed you to use your mobile phone to send a text message with the stand's ID#  that then could debit your bank account or your mobile phone service provider's account the required fee for the quantity of parking time you desired.  The stand then printed out a receipt you place on the inside windscreen of your car and you were all set.  I don't think I need to say how expensive things are overseas when you have to debit your bank account to pay for the parking meter.

The railing pitches inward and looks better aesthetically from the "inside the cage" perspective.  I think the railing continues below the walking surface for artistic effect with night-time lighting.  Didn't see that as it was light out till 11pm.
