Greetings All:

Removal of the extensive graffiti at the Pine Lake bridge is nearly complete.  It no longer looks like Bridgeport.  The railings and granite posts are cleaned off and sealed, and Parks & Rec did a great job of painting the gatehouse before it got cold (thank you Ron and Dean and whoever did the painting).  It looks a million times better than it did before.  Our security trail cameras have been ordered and are on their way.  The graffiti left for last is on the abutments under the bridge.  I had success removing some of that this morning using the Trails Committee’s heavy duty cordless drill and wire brush attachment, along with graffiti solvent, being careful not to let any drip down into the water.  I used up both batteries and need to return after they’re recharged to finish up the job.

Here are some before and after photos …I have not publicized these because I don’t want to reward the vandals by publishing pictures of their work:

I do expect graffiti to be a fact of life and it will return, but cameras and quick removal will hopefully reduce the frequency of it.

-Teresa

I tried a google search to see what was the connection if any that might be floating around on the web to ION and graffiti...or...tagging.   There seems to be some vague link but I could not pin it down as the two terms do come up together and it may have something to do with a rock band.    I was wishfully thinking they might have posted their "work" as those numbnuts on the ATVs did.

I tried that as well. You never know, some kids really are that stupid. The only thing I found was a video game that goes by the initials TOA and which has a major character called “Ion”.   Doesn’t really help, though.

Ha, here’s a video of Ion’s funeral service on TOA (Tales of the Abyss).

OK - so the name seems to come from a video game?  Suggests the age range of the culprit  is probably 10 to 14. ?

I just bought my parents a wii fit video console for xmas.  I'm pretty sure they are over 14.  Demographic is larger than 10-14.

Those Harbinsons never act their age.....thinking they are teenagers on the ski slopes, on the golf course, on the green rolling hills of Ireland, wherever.......

Ah me friend Mr McCreery: Youth is the gift of nature, but age is a work of art.  I just happen to have a big canvas with a pallette of slopes, courses and hills to paint with.
