Angelo and all

My understanding is that we are staring to get a  lot of information that is still mixed up
I suggest a few processes, along the lines already discussed in various portions of communication, that we could elaborate and circulate to all teams

Below just some sketches, they need refining and working out into procedures that can be issued as guidelines
to anyone wating to help out

source data
translate data
pushing and make visible data
promote resource allocaton based on the visible data

DATA SOURCING

1) getting data from the untacd database (angelo gets dump of data, clears what can be made public and circuates to work group for weeding and posting to wiki)
2) enda and the indonesia bloggers post data and information to their wikis/blogs

Andy helps coordinate the data translation, I think Michel Bawens and Ric also said they were going to help?

by data here we need the type of needs to be fulfilled
example of useful data set:
in village such and such, location such and such (name of building, street, contact details)
they need the following supplies:   food, clothes, first aid, baby goods and toiletries  and one doctor
(or something)

MAPPING DATA
data should be mapped onto visual maps if possible (shelterfinder, other maps?)
to provide clear coordinates

this step is useful, but not essential to fulfilment per se
a list of locations on a map is a very nice thing to have I think and can provide aggregate data

MAKING USE OF THE DATA
Each blogger who holds one of more piece of data that refers to be a situationcan create an account on p2pAid.org
where they publish a page for each data set above.
in village such and such, location such and such (name of building, street, contact details)
they need the following supplies:   food, clothes, first aid, baby goods and toiletries  and one doctor
(or something)

This tool, although never user tested, should be set up to helps us support the supply flow so that if someone asks for something, the request can be suspended as soon as such supply is received

Requests can come from anyone who spots a need
Dontations can supply from any agency who has a supply waiting to be distruuted
Intermediary, can be anyone capable of suppyoing the distribution chian (red cross, public forces dhl and what not)

let us hear your thoughts on any of the above

The way we could collaborate on this is:

Enda & the HelpJogia.net team blogs the info at their blogs (one is english and one isn't).

WWH tends to the wiki by seeding information off HelpJogia/IndoHelp's blog, and sorts it, shelterfinder manages the GIS data that we're being sent, p2paid handles logistics of connecting donors to camps.

Shelterfinder can sync with Enda/HelpJogia's team & WWH via a coordination page on Shelterfinder's wiki (can set up a redirection from WWH's wiki on shelter to point off to the page on the Shelterfinder wiki)

That's just a nutshell.

Paola/Enda is this somethng you both can work with?

cheers,
angelo.

PS: thanks to Nancy/Neha for knocking up the idea together.

Hi Angelo

I have not spoken nor heard from  Neha and Nancy to this effect, nore have I seen any posts regarding the setting up of  process.

Are there secret discussions taking place ?

Shelterrfinder and p2paid were set up with the idea of aggregating information that is spread out on the web, especialy from bloggers and other real time media.

Glad the big picture is becoming clear, and I hope it works.

I think it would be useful to have the urls, so that people know where to post their stuff

Enda & the HelpJogia.net team blogs the info at their blogs (one is english and one isn't).

URLS?

WWH tends to the wiki by seeding information off HelpJogia/IndoHelp's blog, and sorts it,

is that
worldwidehelp.blogspot.com
, or what other wwwh resource?

shelterfinder manages the GIS data that we're being sent,

Anand, Wendy - t will be able to tell you what data and format then can manage to input into shelterfinder,  but in principle YES
Its not GIS data that we need at sf, we need qualitative data
(people at the shelter location, type of location etc)

www.shelterfider.org  (database up soon)
www/shelterfinder.org/wiki

p2paid handles logistics of connecting donors to camps.

p2p aid does not handle logisitcs as such  - bloggers need to load data, and donors and intermediaries can use that data. the system should keep track of the supply flow (beta)

url is :www.p2paid.org

I think it will work

provided the process is clear, and the right information is distributed including to
all agencies working in the area, so that they can use the information being made available
to fulfil their tasks

cheers

I've said this before and am going to say it again, can we please not jump to conclusions about things, the last thing folks would need is people starting flame wars or issues of distrust, etc. against each other. I believe that we;'re all working towards a common goal of helping people so please, please let's keep it that way and not jump to conclusions. If any one has doubts feel free to air them in a constructive manner, we're all volunteers, giving our time to assist in any way we could, so let's keep that community spirit up. Glad we cleared that up :)

Paola, wrt to Nancy she pinged me on gtalk to collaborate efforts instead of duplicating the,, re Neha she helped in the sketched out team plan :) no Secret discussions Paola, no need to get paranoid :D Some people might not be posting but i can assure you that there are many out there contributing their time towards a common goal re indo relief efforts online/collating data.

On to the blog addresses:

HelpJogia.net is the url u're looking for, Enda's is indonesiahelp.blogspot.com

the wwh wiki for the java quake is here:
http://javaquake.worldwidehelp.info

re p2paid and logistics, thanks for clarifying that ;)

any one else has questions/suggestions, looking forward to them.

cheers,
angelo.

Angelo,

it is important that  discussions belong to lists especially considering that we are on the same list/group

I am very glad that others, especially Nancy and Neha are working on the case and that we are  thinking along the same lines,  I am sure the process can be refined further and eveybody input should be known and welcome.

I think based on what Anand told us shelterfinder should be ready soon to take input data from registered users, and p2paid is ready to take orders (beta), so if our collective process is set up not much further intervention should be needed there from us, until there is a problem or a change

We are availble for support should the tools seem not to work properly or need further development

let me know if there is anything missing from our end of the chain

cheers
