Hi all,

Apologies for this group mailer and to those of you who might be
receiving this email more than once due to being on the other relief
projects' mailing lists.

Anyone who is interested in how the blogosphere can set up systems to
respond more systematically and even more quickly to disasters are
invited to participate in a conference organized by Global Voices
Online (www.globalvoicesonline.org).

Global Voices Online is a non-profit global citizens' media project,
sponsored by and launched from the Berkman Center for Internet and
Society (http://cyber.law.harvard.edu/home/) at the Harvard Law
School. Global Voices are going to convene an IRC at 9am Wednesday
EST, 1400 GMT (that is tomorrow) and this will be taking place on the
#globalvoices channel at freenode
(irc://irc.freenode.net/#globalvoices). We will also be joined by the
folks at Reuters AlertNet (www.alertnet.org). Reuters AlertNet is a
humanitarian news network based around a popular website. It aims to
keep relief professionals and the wider public up-to-date on
humanitarian crises around the globe.

Don't worry if you can't make it – this will no doubt be the first of
several meetups and discussions. Tomorrow's IRC conference will be
transcribed and it's transcript posted at a link that will be released
later on in the day. In order to participate and join in the
discussion tomorrow, you will need to download and install an IRC
client for your computer. This is the program that will let you access
IRC, just like a web browser which is the program that lets you access
web pages. If you need any help with getting IRC to work, you might
find this introduction and
tutorial((http://cyber.law.harvard.edu/globalvoices/?page_id=78)) to
IRC useful.

Best,
Angelo
