After all of the updates, you should be able to successfully change
your password(s).
Actually, I had delusions of potentially _not_ being OpenSource one
day but I have since abandoned those notions after moving to OpenVAS.
I was going to also use a key for tracking of other things as well. I
ditched all of those ideas and have removed that key screen in the
updates that are posted.
With all of these suggestions for updating, it would be nice to know
_how_ to update the software. It is a two step process. First, the
VM will call home around midnight (I thought 1am but was wrong, I just
checked my cron jobs). If you are impatient (like me), you can login
to VM on the console and as the shellie user run the command /usr/home/
shellie/cmds/clientScript.php (This is the command that runs at
midnight). However you do it, once the command has run, your updates
will be available under the System Status -> Upgrades area. In there,
you will find any updates listed and an install now option.
The other thing that you may want to do is change the root password on
the console. By default, this password is just that, password.
Keep the questions, comments, complaints coming. I will try to
explain, fix, deny all allegations where possible.
