architecture,
history and
spirit.

Get
inspired, try your
hand at and sample
these creative
approaches and
process with
artists.
Join
3 artists based at
Portland Works in
a creative
immersive
experience. This
is a taster
workshop where
participants have
the opportunity to
test out and
sample different
creative
approaches and
processes in this
half day workshop.
The
workshops will use
the architecture,
history and spirit
of Portland Works
to inspire
artwork. You will
be taken on a
short tour of the
works where you’ll
be able to engage
with the colours,
textures and
shapes of the
buildings as well
as the sounds and
spaces in between,
with a short talk
on the history of
this old cutlery
factory.
Mary Sewell: Ceramics and texture: Making a small ceramic
form inspired by
the shapes,
textures and
spirit of Portland
Works.
Sue Hale: Collage and textile: Using paper collage and
stitch to create a
small piece
reflecting the
history of The
Works.
Trish O’Shea: Sketching, mark making, mono-printing and
press-print
techniques to
produce prints in
response to the
environment and
architecture of
Portland Works.
Each session will be 2.5 hours. It will be an
open workshop
where participants
will have the
opportunity to
engage and taste
all 3 processes or
they may want to
focus on one or
two. The morning
and afternoon
sessions will be
the same and
participants can
book either one
session am or pm
or both.
Located in the
beautiful Makerspace
events room.
