Hi people,

A while ago someone mentioned running mains and Catx together.

I had always known this was considered bad form, and equally I have always done it if it was too much trouble to avoid, domestically at least. I am basically lazy.

My cables are all running at 1G (diagnostics say it is so and data transfer rates tend to confirm it) despite co-running and some cables being 25 years old.

Anyway today I came across this -

Doncaster Cables is the largest British owned general wiring manufacturer in the UK. We have been manufacturing cables since 1984 and among our current staff alone we have over 1000 years direct cable manufacturing experience. Throughout this time we have continued to develop in to an internationally recognised brand throughout the cable industry.
Regards

Graham

I understand that it's not advisable to run mains and CATx together mainly for safety reasons - the voltage insulation of CATx is not all that good and if damage occurs then mains can get into the CATx. This new cable has high voltage ratings for both, and is also armoured.

Good find Graham!

Probably right, though I don't think this stuff counts as armoured cable.

The makers think it is - see data sheet page 1.
"Steel Wire Armour: Galvanised steel wire armour (where applicable)"
