PLEASE REPLY BY 25TH MARCH

I am attaching a letter which I want to send to the Leader of Sheffield City Council/Councillors about the way in which they are prepared to implement and enforce through the courts cuts to housing benefit (the bedroom tax)  and council tax benefit. This will involve trying to extract 'money with menaces' from 31,000 sheffield people of working age who CANNOT PAY. This will be in addition to similar attacks on most other benefits e.g. disability living allowance, tax credits, employment support allowance etc which people NEED IN ORDER TO SURVIVE - this is a necessity not a lifestyle choice (TUC) .

We are not scroungers. The scroungers are the bankers who recklessly created a financial crisis and then asked for a handout of £1 trillion or more from the taxpayer and created the deficit.

Benefit claimants cannot and should not be compelled to take a cut to help pay for this.

We believe that with determined effort we can force the dratted Coalition government to back down and withdraw this iniquitous policy. I will leave this open for one week before sending so I am asking you to agree to add your name to this letter, and get as many other people - members, colleagues, friends - in fact anyone who supports it to do the same. Please also state your union or other organisation if you can.

This is only one initiative we are doing; there will be others. We need to have a meeting in every area in Sheffield in order to build a BIG campaign alongside all the other campaigns around the country and then bring together and unite all the people affected by these cuts. Please let us know if you can help with this.
