Hi all:

I was wondering if anyone has direct experience with transitioning
from a Discus to a Discus2, and more specifically to an 18 meter D2.

Does the 18 meter feel heavy and or sluggish? Roll rate?

Forgiving to fly like the original Discus?

Thanks

Lee Kulke would be the guy to talk to..I think that's what he has in France!

I have done just that, - traded a two partner Discus CS (Czech built
Discus B) for a Discus 2cT, and my former partner did the same.

The 18 meter does not feel sluggish, and in fact is quite responsive.
It too is forgiving and it is intuitive in all but one big aspect.
The wings are mounted with such a low angle of incidence (I assume to
improve fast cruise perofrmance, and cruise fast it does) that the
launch is protracted as it takes ~50 knots to lift off (the tailwheel
restricting the attitude while on the takeoff roll), and it thermals
and lands with a very nose high attitude.

It is markedly easier to rig than the CS, and dry, seems only a tad
slower than the ASG 29's in moderate conditions in Florida (see recent
flight logs for the Seniors).

Thanks. Any idea what the true LD is? Seems to be very little data out
there.

Seems to be ~49:1. I have Cc'd Tony Firmin, also a D2cT owner, and an
aerospace engineer; he may wish to comment from a more credible and
mathematical perspective.
